SALARY: $90,000
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Social Services provides leadership, supervision, and training to on-site social service staff. The Director of Social Services also serves as the liaison between the participants and the Shelter Director.
This is a 24-hour program. The Director of Social Services is classified as an essential worker, and as such accepts responsibility for the completion of their critical services to participants, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
· Provides leadership, guidance, and administrative supervision to social service staff.
· Provides weekly one-on-one supervision for social services staff.
· Conducts case conferences; resolves participant issues.
· Reviews service plans, program notes, and other participant documentation to ensure comprehensiveness and compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements. Signs off on final documents prior to filing in participant charts.
· Audits participant records to ensure compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements.
· Conducts regular staff meetings.
· Provides training to social services staff.
· Provides ongoing feedback and annual job performance evaluations to social service staff.
· Supervises incident reporting; strategizes follow-up with social services team.
· Conducts participant assessment and crisis intervention.
· Supervises interns assisting with social services work.
· Prepares monthly reports (including statistics and other data) for program funding sources.
· Assists Shelter Director with annual reports.
· Approves timecards and changes in staff schedules, monitors attendance of social service staff.
· Works in conjunction with the Recreational Coordinator to create a monthly calendar of events and schedules group activities.
· Assists Shelter Director with Human Resource matters, including interviewing and hiring.
· Works with Shelter Director to coordinate the ordering of office supply orders; may handle petty cash custodial duties and other administrative tasks if needed.
· Serves as on-site liaison for participants.
· Develops and maintains relationships with community resources.
· Assists with other duties assigned by the Shelter Director and other functions related to the program.
· Fill in for missing and/or vacant staff in the performance of important duties towards participants.
· On call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
· Adheres to confidentiality protocols outlined by the agency.
· Represents Lutheran Social Service of New York’s mission and values; upholds agency Code of Conduct and other policies and procedures.
· Demonstrates commitment to social justice and promotes equity by identifying and removing barriers, facilitating learning, cultivating community, and empowering others.

· Social Workers, Case Managers and Recreational Coordinator.

EDUCATION:
· Licensed Clinical Social Worker
EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum of 2 years as a supervisor in the field of social services preferred.
· Working experience with individuals and knowledge of issues related to homelessness, HIV, substance use, mental illness, entitlements, and domestic violence.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
· Strong leadership/team building/coaching skills.
· Excellent clinical skills.
· Strong writing and speaking skills.
· Excellent administrative skills; highly organized and detail oriented.
· Strong time management; able to handle multiple tasks and assignments at once.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
· Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
· Sensitive to intersectionality, different cultures, housing equality and a demonstrated ability to work within a social/racial justice framework.
· Knowledge of CARES system a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· Crisis intervention skills.
· Familiarity with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
