Job Description

A growing electrical infrastructure and specialty contracting organisation is seeking an experienced Director of Safety and Field Compliance to lead its safety strategy across a multi-state operating footprint.

The company delivers electrical construction, communications infrastructure, low-voltage systems, controls, and specialty technology solutions for customers across data centers, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, commercial construction, and industrial facilities.

This is a senior operational leadership role responsible for strengthening safety performance, field compliance, training, incident management, and risk prevention across multiple operating divisions. The successful candidate will work closely with project executives, field leaders, human resources, legal, and insurance partners to establish consistent safety standards across the organisation.

The role will oversee a regional safety team and will have significant interaction with senior operational leadership. Regular travel to project sites and regional offices will be required.

Candidates should be based within reasonable commuting distance of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of company-wide safety programs and field-compliance standards
  • Manage, mentor, and develop regional safety professionals
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve safety performance across active construction sites
  • Establish consistent procedures for incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up
  • Conduct reviews of serious incidents, near misses, and developing areas of operational risk
  • Monitor safety metrics and identify trends requiring corrective action
  • Develop practical safety programs for electrical, technology, and specialty construction environments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and other safety regulations
  • Support project teams during customer audits and major project mobilisations
  • Oversee safety training, supervisor education, and field leadership development
  • Evaluate subcontractor safety practices and support contractor qualification processes
  • Work with insurance, legal, claims, and risk-management partners following significant incidents
  • Improve safety reporting and executive visibility into operational performance
  • Participate in preconstruction planning for complex or high-risk projects
  • Support integration of acquired businesses into company safety standards
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout field and corporate operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, environmental health, or a related discipline
  • At least 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience
  • Previous responsibility for safety programs within construction, electrical contracting, engineering, industrial services, or infrastructure
  • Experience supporting a geographically dispersed field workforce
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices
  • Experience investigating significant workplace incidents
  • Demonstrated ability to develop practical safety programs and improve field performance
  • Strong leadership and team-development skills
  • Ability to influence project executives, supervisors, and field personnel
  • Experience using safety metrics and incident data to identify trends
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and confidence operating in high-risk field environments
  • Willingness to travel regularly to active project sites

Preferred Experience

  • Electrical construction or specialty contracting experience
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, healthcare, industrial, or large commercial construction projects
  • CSP, CHST, ASP, or another relevant safety designation
  • Experience supporting acquisition integration
  • Familiarity with safety-management software and digital reporting systems
  • Experience managing regional or national safety teams
