The Director of Rooms is a strategic executive leader responsible for driving the vision, financial performance, and operational excellence of the Rooms Division. This role oversees the Front Desk, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Valet, and Loss Prevention operations, ensuring a world-class guest experience while aligning with the hotel’s overall business objectives. The Director collaborates with senior leadership to develop strategies that produce balanced outcomes in financial performance, guest experience, and associate satisfaction. This is an executive-level position reporting to the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with the General Manager and the executive team to develop and execute a strategic plan for the Rooms division that aligns with overall hotel goals.
• Control payroll and direct expenses in line with the budget and varying levels of business using corporate-wide technology and other systems.
• Establish and uphold service standards that reflect luxury hospitality expectations, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and guest satisfaction.
• Ensure all lobby and common areas are maintained and provide a luxury experience for all guests.
• Partner with the third-party valet company to ensure quality standards and expectations are upheld.
• Analyze service issues, identify trends, and create action plans to address opportunities.
• Show year-over-year improvement in associate satisfaction scores throughout the division, including maintaining low turnover and high promotion-from-within ratings.
• Participate in weekly forecasting and scheduling activities.
• Provide assistance to the Director of Finance during the annual budget process for the Rooms Division.
• Prepare and execute action plans as directed by management.
• Review operating outcomes daily, including corrective action if required.
• Stay visible and connect with guests regularly to gather feedback on product quality, service levels, and overall satisfaction.
• Work with direct reports (e.g., department heads) to develop and implement departmental strategies to ensure delivery of budget, service, and retention goals.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Food & Beverage leadership team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
• Oversee recruitment and retention strategies to attract top talent and ensure a strong leadership pipeline.
• Ensure compliance with labor laws and employment regulations, maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
• Champion professional development programs and succession planning initiatives to strengthen internal talent.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive Rooms leadership in a property of similar size and quality.
• Previous Front Office and Housekeeping experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
• Proven experience in forecasting & scheduling, daily reviews, and analysis of operating results preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with property management systems.
• Excellent verbal and written professional communication skills.
• Exceptional leadership and team development skills with the ability to mentor and grow a high-performing team.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
• Ability to work closely and communicate with all associates, departments, guests, and clients in a professional manner.
• Must be highly service-oriented.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
