Position Summary
The Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is responsible for end-to-end oversight and performance of the revenue cycle across the practice. This role combines deep operational expertise in revenue cycle management with a strong focus on workflow optimization, performance measurement, and clear communication with physicians and executive leadership.
The Director of RCM is accountable for financial performance, operational discipline, and the development of reliable reporting that enables data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Leadership
- Owns the full revenue cycle from front-end access through final collections
- Drives performance across scheduling, registration, authorization, coding, billing, AR, and collections
- Establishes accountability for internal teams and external vendors
- Identifies revenue leakage and implements corrective action
- Ensures compliance with payer, regulatory, and contractual requirements
Workflow Design & Operational Discipline
- Designs, standardizes, and enforces revenue cycle workflows across departments and specialties
- Aligns workflows with clinical operations to reduce friction and rework
- Defines standard timelines, handoffs, and escalation paths
- Leads continuous process improvement initiatives
- Ensures workflows are scalable to support growth and new service lines
Reporting, Analytics & Performance Management
- Owns revenue cycle reporting and analytics
- Defines and standardizes KPIs, metrics, and definitions
- Develops dashboards that are accurate, timely, and actionable
- Uses reporting to actively manage performance and drive accountability
- Translates complex financial and operational data into clear, physician-relevant insights
Physician & Executive Communication
- Serves as a primary liaison between revenue cycle operations and physicians
- Communicates revenue cycle performance transparently and credibly
- Supports executive leadership and board reporting as needed
- Partners with leadership to align clinical and revenue cycle priorities
Team Leadership & Development
- Leads and develops revenue cycle management staff
- Clarifies roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
- Identifies capability gaps and recommends staffing or structure changes
- Builds a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Technology, Vendors & Optimization
- Partners with IT and operations on RCM system optimization
- Oversees third-party billing, coding, and AR vendors
- Ensures systems and vendors support performance goals

Qualifications

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 8–10+ years of progressive revenue cycle leadership experience
- Deep expertise across all revenue cycle functions
- Proven success improving collections, reducing AR, and stabilizing cash flow
- Strong experience using reporting to manage and communicate performance
- Experience working directly with physicians and senior executives
- Multispecialty or procedural practice experience preferred
