The Director of Retail provides strategic leadership for all retail operations across Sundance Mountain Resort. This position is responsible for developing retail strategy, driving sales performance, leading outlet managers, creating merchandising standards, overseeing centralized inventory management, expanding e-commerce opportunities, and ensuring consistent brand alignment across all retail outlets.

The Director establishes systems, processes, and performance metrics that improve efficiency, profitability, guest experience, and team development while maintaining the unique identity of each retail location.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Strategy

  • Develop and execute the annual retail business strategy for all retail outlets.
  • Create and maintain business plans for each retail location.
  • Lead the Retail Leadership Team, bringing together outlet leaders to align on merchandising, inventory, purchasing strategy, product development, operational standards, and financial performance.
  • Lead retail budget development, forecasting, and P&L reviews.
  • Establish retail performance metrics, KPIs, and reporting dashboards to measure performance.
  • Analyze sales trends, inventory performance, labor efficiency, and profitability across all retail departments.
  • Oversee retail technology platforms, reporting systems, and operational tools.
  • Lead vendor relationships, purchasing strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain retail SOPs and playbooks.
  • Ensure brand alignment and consistency across all retail locations.
  • Identify and evaluate new retail opportunities, product categories, and revenue streams.
  • Work with Sales & Catering to offer unique retail packages.
  • Work closely with Marketing to ensure retail compliance with TLA requirements across the resort.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop outlet managers and retail leadership teams.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Develop succession planning and career development opportunities.
  • Create leadership development programs for retail managers and supervisors.
  • Foster collaboration between retail outlets and other resort departments.
  • Promote a culture focused on guest first service, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Merchandising & Centralized Inventory Management

  • Develop and implement a resort-wide merchandising strategy.
  • Create merchandising standards, visual guidelines, and seasonal product plans.
  • Oversee product assortment, category management, and product lifecycle planning.
  • Lead retail buying strategy and vendor selection.
  • Manage product development opportunities and private-label merchandise.
  • Maintain merchandising calendars and seasonal launch plans.
  • Oversee centralized inventory management across all outlets.
  • Evaluate and implement inventory systems, controls, and best practices.
  • Monitor inventory levels, stock movement, transfers, and replenishment strategies.
  • Develop inventory forecasting models based on sales trends and seasonal demand.
  • Establish warehouse and storage organization standards.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental inventory transfers and balancing.
  • Improve receiving, reconciliation, and inventory accuracy processes.
  • Explore opportunities for centralized purchasing and volume discounts.
  • Manage resort uniform purchasing and distribution programs.

Online Store Ownership

  • Develop and execute the resort's e-commerce strategy.
  • Manage Shopify and all online retail platforms.
  • Monitor online sales performance and customer experience.
  • Maintain product listings, pricing, inventory availability, and merchandising online.
  • Coordinate product launches across physical and digital channels.
  • Develop online-exclusive merchandise opportunities.
  • Partner with Marketing to drive digital sales campaigns and promotions.
  • Improve website merchandising, product photography, and content standards.
  • Oversee fulfillment, shipping, and customer service processes for online orders.
  • Analyze e-commerce performance metrics and optimize conversion rates.
  • Ensure accurate inventory synchronization between online and physical locations.
