
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. New York City has approximately 140,000 catch basins, 114,000 hydrants, 90,000 valves, 14 gatehouses, 3 reservoirs, 68 groundwater wells, a 100 million gallon underground storage tank and 7,000 miles each of both sanitary sewers and water mains. The responsibility of maintaining these vast networks falls under the Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO).
Under the leadership of the Assistant Commissioner of Business Operations, Core Services & Digital Transformation of the Bureau of Water & Sewer Operation (BWSO), the PBOM Director oversees Project and Business Operations Management (PBOM) to ensure that programs and projects meet the organization’s goals and strategic plan. The Director develops and implements business processes and policies, directs project management staff, and works with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs. The director is also responsible for the overall project management function, providing leadership, coordination, and management of project management processes and functions.
The Office of Project and Business Operations Management was established to oversee priority projects to support the Bureau’s mission, track strategic initiatives, and measure performance for greater progress and accountability. Initiate and direct planning and analyses projects aimed at maintaining and improving operations and planning for various Bureau clients. Supervise complex mapping and analytical projects for use in operations and long-term planning decision making. Direct implementation of Bureau-wide standard operating procedures (SOP) initiatives including determination of plan and procedure changes, templates, and mechanisms for tracking, updating and maintaining the SOPs.

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of fulltime satisfactory professional experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position including eighteen months of experience in a managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.
