The Director of Programme Management is responsible for leading and developing the Programme Management function, ensuring the team is set up for success both strategically and operationally. This role oversees all Programme Managers, owning the direction, structure and effectiveness of the function. You will ensure the right tools, methodologies and frameworks are in place to support delivery excellence, while enabling the team to operate efficiently day-to-day. Acting as a senior leader, you will also play a key role in removing blockers, supporting decision-making and driving continuous improvement across programme delivery.

Responsibilities 🀘

  • Lead and manage the Programme Management team, providing direction, coaching and performance oversight

  • Define and own the strategy for the Programme Management function, aligning with wider organisational goals

  • Ensure the team has the right tools, frameworks and methodologies to deliver successfully

  • Establish and continuously improve programme delivery standards, governance and best practices

  • Support Programme Managers in overcoming challenges, unblocking decisions and navigating complex delivery environments

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the team to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes

  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to drive alignment, transparency and effective decision-making

  • Identify opportunities to optimise processes, improve efficiency and enhance delivery capability

  • Proven experience leading Programme Management teams or functions within a complex, fast-paced environment

  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to define and implement effective delivery frameworks

  • Deep understanding of programme delivery methodologies, tools and best practices

  • Experience supporting and developing senior Programme Managers

  • Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing long-term vision with day-to-day execution

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive decisions at senior levels

  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to removing blockers and improving processes

  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills
