SALARY RANGE: $161,500.00 - $190,000.00

THIS POSITION WILL OVERSEE ACUTE CARE


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves planning, organizing and directing the Pharmaceutical Services Department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. This is a professional and administrative position responsible for the development, implementation and control of departmental policies and procedures relative to the daily operations of pharmaceutical services in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and accreditation standards. Work is performed under
the general direction of a higher-level administrator. Supervision is exercised over a large number of professional, clerical and technical staff. Does related work as required.


TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Directs overall departmental activities with regard to direct and indirect patient care services;
Oversees pharmaceutical purchasing and storage practices and activities related to the compounding and dispensing of medications;
Oversees 340B Drug Pricing Program (hospital to receive drugs from pharmaceutical companies and make available to patients both at lower costs) for compliance with federal guidelines;
Interviews, hires, orients and trains departmental personnel;
Oversees the establishment of work schedules and assignment of department personnel;
Works with lower-level supervisors in addressing and resolving personnel matters such as disciplines, work
performance improvement, time and attendance, etc.;
Reviews and revises operating policies and procedures to improve services provided; prepares and provides reports on quality improvement initiatives;
Maintains formularies, sources of information on preparations, standard compendia on pharmaceuticals, reference texts and journals;
Consults with medical staff concerning information obtained on medications, such as warnings, incompatibility with other drugs, or contra-indications of drugs;
Initiates, develops and carries out rules and regulations pertaining to administrative and professional policies;
Works with applicable staff and/or contractors on special pharmaceutical requests, business development initiatives and outreach activities.


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, terminology and equipment of pharmacy; thorough knowledge of
administrative principles, practices and techniques utilized in a large-scale acute care hospital and long-term care
facility; thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and accreditation standards as they relate to the
practice of pharmacy; thorough knowledge of Federal 340B Program and market-based drug costs; ability to develop
and implement pharmaceutical services policies and procedures; ability to direct the work of lower-level staff; ability
to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications; sound professional
judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy
Education (ACPE) accredited School of Pharmacy and seven (7) years of pharmacy experience, of which included
both five (5) years of hospital pharmacy experience* and four (4) years of administrative or supervisory experience.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a license to practice Pharmacy in New York State at time of application and maintenance throughout
duration of appointment.

NOTE 1: *Completion of one (1) year of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency, not
included as part of the education requirement above, may be substituted for one (1) year of the pharmacy experience and
hospital pharmacy experience, but not the administrative or supervisory experience.
NOTE 2: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full time experience requirement
