Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive CAO, Department Chairs, and the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as the senior administrative and business leader for the Departments of Clinical Genetics, Human Genetics, Biological Chemistry, and affiliated research institutes.

As Director of Operations, the CAO provides strategic and operational leadership for a large, research-intensive academic enterprise, advancing the Medical School’s missions of education, research, and community engagement.

The CAO oversees a complex organization with an annual budget exceeding $83.6M and supports 109 faculty and 345 staff. This role ensures operational excellence, strong financial stewardship, and effective administrative infrastructure to enable world-class research and academic success.

This is a key leadership opportunity for an experienced executive who excels in complex, collaborative environments and brings strategic insight, sound business judgment, and a commitment to high-performing teams.

Salary: $10,708.33 - $24,841.67 monthly


Job Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Master’s degree (BA, Health Care Administration, Public health or related field) or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible managerial experience including financial and budget preparation.
  • 5 years of s upervisory experience, with at least three or more years as the senior leader over multiple department or service lines
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, planning and change managementskills in a highly matrixed environment, preferably a research intensive medical school/health system
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencinga wide variety of people at various levels to achieveresults.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze all pertinent information/data to make and communicate executive level recommendations and decisions.
  • Exceptional negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a culture of integrity and accountability.
  • Advanced expertise infinancial planning and analysis and decision support as it pertains to academic health care, research, and higher education.
  • Demonstrate to others that he/she isdirect, truthful, andcredible.
  • Demonstrated skills as a receptive listener, influential and persuasive and seeks to understand the differing sides of each situation. Makes decisions effectively and decisively.
  • Strong knowledge of industrystandards, trends, and regulatoryrequirements.
