POSITION SUMMARY

This is a senior level operations position that directly engages with our teams to assure operational excellence in the execution of our projects. Responsible to work with professional operations staff, field operations staff, and self-performed management and field craft assuring alignment of goals while establishing clear performance metrics and expectations. Collaborates with Business Unit Leaders, Estimating and Preconstruction, Building Performance Solutions, other Directors of Operations, as well as Senior Executives from pursuit through execution and close-out.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations/Execution

  • Collaborates across the operations groups of field, office, and self-performed craft to assure execution excellence for projects, teams, and clients.
  • Evaluates current and upcoming project load to lead staffing discussions and assignments, ensuring optimal coverage of projects, future succession planning, and associate performance evaluations.
  • Leads by example to set expectations for building and maintaining exceptional relationships with owners, design teams, trade partners, suppliers, and associates through active and regular communication with involved parties.
  • Leads process to resolve complex and/or difficult project challenges by addressing problems quickly and to reach the best solution for MGC while maintaining the integrity of trade partner and client relationships.
  • Develops relationships and works closely with support departments (Safety, QA/QC, MEP, Logistics Center, IT, DEI, Accounting, HR, etc.), understanding their roles while encouraging broader team engagement as a form of risk mitigation and profit enhancement.
  • Analyzes trends and best practices across projects and uses data to implement improvements and support company initiatives, both field and office.
  • Engages in labor relation activities, estimate reviews, and business development activities as needed by operational leaders.
  • Supports operations to ensure projects are completed in compliance with contract documents and company policy.
  • Participates in monthly project reviews assuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality. Works with teams to develop recovery plans when issues arise.
  • Reviews labor projections with the teams, assuring cost alignment with project budget.
  • Overall accountability for the operational performance and profit and loss of the self-perform market sector(s).
  • Works with CFO, Business Unit Leaders, and VP, Operations to forecast annual revenue and profitability of the self-perform market sector(s).
  • Provides regular reports and updates to senior management on the progress of self-perform projects, including budget, schedule, and quality, (WIP, Projections, etc.).

Recruiting and Associate Development

  • Leads recruiting efforts to identify and recruit qualified candidates to fulfill staffing needs, with assistance from Human Resources and operational leaders.
  • Supports on-boarding, coordination, mentoring, training, and development for field, office, and self-perform operations staff.
  • Understands associate strengths and opportunities, identifying future paths for career advancement, and potential for succession planning.
  • Supports operations to identify and manage difficult Associate and/or emotional situations.
  • Works with Human Resources to develop and implement Associate performance and/or development plans.
  • Works with other operational leaders to identify and assign staff to projects not only based upon capacity, but also individual career development goals for each Associate.

Financial and Risk Management

  • Tracks financial performance for the Business Unit, (WIP, Chargeability, Revenue Forecasting, etc.)
  • Works with project leaders to develop risk analysis and mitigation plan with the project team, identifying critical issues and high-risk activities. Engages the Safety Team as required to ensure adherence to established MGC safety protocols and procedure.
  • Reviews reports and analytics prepared by construction operations, (e.g., Projections, W.I.P., Performance matrices, Budget Management) and works with execution teams to make appropriate adjustments when necessary to adhere to established performance metrics.
  • Supports the implementation and execution of McCownGordon Safety Program as established by Safety and Risk leadership.
  • Works with Scheduling to assure engagement and adherence by project teams to established scheduling protocols and expectations.
  • Supports construction operations to prevent issues by thoroughly analyzing potential risks and leads the team to establish a plan to eliminate or reduce risks to the Business Unit.

Customer and Community Engagement

  • Serves as the main point of contact for selected customers.
  • Effectively builds relationships across organizational levels, collaborating with all departments involved in projects and pursuit activities and intentionally seeking input from those with diverse perspectives.
  • Actively participates in community and professional associations to contribute to the overall community, promote the company, and build networks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive construction supervision experience with a commercial general contractor; required experience in the following areas:
  • Construction supervision experience with a commercial general contractor where at least three projects were valued over $50 million.
  • Proven success in establishing project objectives and monitoring performance.
  • Proven success in negotiating contracts, conducting risk analysis, material procurement, scheduling, and costing of commercial construction projects.
  • Created and/or supported business and market focus plans.
  • Proficient in application of Microsoft Projects and scheduling projects and Procore for project management controls or similar

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires work in an office environment, as well as regular project site visits.
