The Director of Operations leads the execution of multiple construction projects, ensuring delivery that is safe, on time, within scope, and on budget. This role is responsible for driving operational performance across field teams, strengthening client relationships, and implementing processes that improve efficiency, quality, and profitability.

You’ll oversee superintendents and project teams, align resources across projects, and serve as a key link between the field, clients, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Project Operational Leadership

  • Oversee multiple construction projects from pre-construction through closeout
  • Ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards
  • Proactively identify and resolve delays, risks, and operational challenges
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and enforce contract compliance

Team Leadership& Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop superintendents, project managers, and field teams
  • Set clear expectations and drive accountability across all levels
  • Foster a culture of safety, performance, and continuous improvement

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage project budgets, cost controls, and profitability targets
  • Review bids, contracts, and change orders
  • Partner with accounting and leadership on forecasting and financial reporting

Resource & Fleet Management

  • Optimize allocation of labor, equipment, and materials across projects
  • Oversee fleet planning, utilization, maintenance, and compliance

Safety & Quality

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Conduct site visits, audits, and enforce quality standards.

Quality Control

  • Oversee quality assurance processes to meet specifications and client expectations.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Build and maintain strong client and partner relationships
  • Provide regular project updates and quickly resolve issues

Process Improvement & Reporting

  • Identify and implement operational efficiencies, tools, and best practices
  • Deliver clear, consistent reporting to senior leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in civil construction.
  • 3+ years leading teams and projects in excavation and water infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with budgeting, cost control, and contract management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
