Director of Operations (Path to COO)
Remote (must be local to NY)
$200,000 base salary (aligned with ramp and scope over the first few months)
Performance-based bonus tied directly to measurable impact
Profit share at COO-level, with a clear path to $500,000+ total compensation based on company performance and leadership scope
This role is designed for someone who wants to build toward meaningful ownership and long-term upside, with compensation that scales alongside the business.
We are a founder-led, high-growth professional services company at an inflection point.
The business is working. The demand is there.
What’s missing is a senior operator who can take what exists, bring structure, elevate execution, and help scale it into something significantly larger.
This is not a plug-in leadership role.
You will start close to the work — understanding the engine, observing how it operates, and building context — and then expand into full operational ownership as the business grows.
Over time, this role is designed to evolve into a COO-level position, with increasing responsibility across people, process, and performance.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Phase 1: Immersion & Understanding (0–3 months)
- Develop a deep understanding of the core business model and revenue drivers
- Operate hands-on within the company’s primary revenue-generating function
- Observe workflows, team dynamics, and current processes
- Identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities for improvement (without immediate pressure to implement)
- Build credibility through engagement, curiosity, and thoughtful insight
Phase 2: Ownership & Leadership (3–6 months)
- Take ownership over core operations and performance
- Lead and elevate team output, accountability, and standards
- Refine and improve existing KPIs and operational systems to increase clarity, accountability, and scalability
- Strengthen performance visibility, decision-making, and execution across the business
- Drive measurable improvements in speed, quality, and overall output
Phase 3: Scale & Strategic Impact (6–12 months)
- Partner directly with the CEO on strategic direction and execution
- Drive operational scale, hiring strategy, and team expansion
- Build systems that support growth while maintaining quality and consistency
- Expand scope into cross-functional leadership and company-wide performance
- Transition into broader executive-level responsibilities aligned with a COO track
Who Thrives in This Role
- Operates with a high level of ownership and personal accountability
- Moves quickly, makes decisions, and adjusts based on real feedback
- Brings structure to ambiguity and clarity to complexity
- Balances hands-on execution with strategic thinking
- Holds a high performance bar — for themselves and others
- Comfortable engaging directly with leadership and challenging when needed
- Motivated by building something meaningful, not just maintaining what exists
Must-Haves (Read Before Applying)
This role is designed for someone who has already operated at a high level. If you don’t see yourself clearly in the below, this is likely not the right fit.
You have built, scaled, or significantly improved a function, team, or business — not just maintained or participated
You have been accountable for outcomes, not just responsible for tasks
You have led people or driven performance across a team
You are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and adjusting quickly
You have operated in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with high expectations
You understand how a business makes money and how to improve performance
You are willing to start close to the work to understand it deeply before leading it
