GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Responsible for the development, communication, and successful execution of established financial and non-financial objectives as articulated through the organizational structure and strategic plans. As a member of the nursing leadership team, the Director of Inpatient Nursing provides leadership and oversight to department managers and their staff for assigned areas of responsibility. Identifies customer groups, assesses their needs, and coordinates the operations to successfully achieve organizational objectives.Mayserve astheCNO in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Colleague must have an RN license, as defined by their primary work state (Idaho or Oregon), issued prior to hire date.

Must possess knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and requirements as normally acquired through completion of aMaster’s degree in Nursing, with seven (7) or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or other healthcare related field or be currently enrolled in and complete a Master's program within four years of hire. 

5 years ofexperience with demonstrated nursing leadership skills such as team building, performance improvement, communications, systems thinking, negotiation, multitasking, leading interdisciplinary teams,and financial and program managementrequired

At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS)

Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions

Successfully executes the established plans and the services of the functional areas of responsibility through analysis, measurement and monitoring, reporting, and adjusting the direction, allocation and utilization of available resources.

Oversees day to day operations of assigned areas ofresponsibility

Facilitates and manages team performance to the established performance levels; ensures the provision of high quality, cost-effective patient care and performance management of the functional areas of responsibility.

Provides leadership, coaching, and direction to the managers & coordinators of the assigned areas of responsibility in their daily management of operations.

Develops assigned aspects of the organizational strategic and tactical plans in concert with established planning processes.

Collaborates with other hospital leaders in improving quality and efficiency of hospital services.

Ensures that staffing policies and practices provide for continuous and timely availability of nursing services.

Ensures that nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are consistent with nursing research findings and nationally recognized professional standards.

Facilitates the development of processes to ensure adequate levels of beds, equipment, supplies, medication, etc. are available to inpatient nursing units.

Provides leadership to nurse managers to ensure staffing is appropriate for budget, patient safety, and quality of care objectives.

Champions strategic and operational objectives for patient safety and quality, nursing satisfaction, and nursing care model (Relationship Centered Care) in the inpatient nursing units.
