The Director, Marketing, Visibility & Reputation Management (MVR) is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping, protecting, and amplifying the Firm’s brand, market presence, and reputation across local and international markets.

This role goes beyond traditional marketing. It sits at the intersection of brand, business development, client engagement, and strategic growth, with a mandate to position the Firm as the most desirable, innovative, and trusted legal partner in Africa.

The Director will work closely with the Firm’s leadership and Partners to drive market differentiation, client acquisition, and revenue growth while ensuring consistent and compelling brand storytelling across all touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Brand & Market Positioning

• Develop and execute an enterprise-wide marketing, brand, and visibility strategy aligned with the Firm’s growth ambitions.
• Define and articulate a compelling brand narrative that differentiates the Firm in local and international markets.
• Position the Firm as a market leader and trusted advisor across priority sectors and jurisdictions.

2. Business Development & Revenue Enablement

• Partner with Practice Groups and Partners to drive client acquisition, retention, and cross-selling initiatives.
• Lead the development of high-quality client pitches, proposals (RFPs), and capability statements.
• Embed marketing strategies that directly contribute to pipeline growth and revenue generation.

3. Reputation, PR & Thought Leadership

• Design and execute a robust public relations and media strategy to strengthen the Firm’s reputation.
• Lead the Firm’s participation in legal directories and rankings (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500).
• Elevate the Firm’s profile through thought leadership, publications, and speaking engagements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with media, industry bodies, and key external stakeholders.

4. Digital Strategy & Market Visibility

• Drive a cutting-edge digital marketing strategy, including website optimisation, SEO, content marketing, and analytics.
• Expand the Firm’s global digital footprint and visibility across key platforms.
• Leverage data and insights to continuously refine marketing effectiveness and audience engagement.

5. Content, Communications & Brand Experience

• Oversee the development of high-impact content that communicates the Firm’s expertise and value proposition.
• Ensure consistency in brand voice, messaging, and visual identity across all channels.
• Lead internal communications to align employees with the Firm’s brand and strategic direction.

6. Client Experience & Market Insights

• Develop and implement strategies to enhance the end-to-end client experience.
• Establish mechanisms for client feedback and insights, translating them into actionable improvements.
• Leverage market intelligence to identify emerging trends and opportunities.

7. Crisis & Reputation Management

• Establish and lead a proactive reputation management framework, including crisis communication protocols.
• Monitor media coverage, online presence, and public sentiment, ensuring timely and effective responses to reputational risks.

8. Marketing Technology & Data Analytics

• Oversee the Firm’s marketing technology ecosystem, including CRM, digital platforms, and analytics tools.
• Drive a data-led approach to marketing, with clear dashboards and performance tracking.

9. Leadership & Team Development

• Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team across marketing, digital, and communications.
• Foster a culture of innovation, creativity, accountability, and excellence.
• Manage external agencies and vendors to deliver best-in-class outcomes.

10. Governance, Budget & Performance Management

• Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring optimal allocation and return on investment.
• Establish clear KPIs and success metrics, reporting regularly to leadership on performance and impact.

Requirements

• 12–15+ years’ experience in marketing, brand, and communications leadership, preferably within professional services (law firm or consulting )
• Proven track record of developing and executing high-impact marketing and brand strategies
• Demonstrated experience supporting business development and revenue growth initiatives
• Strong experience in PR, media relations, and reputation management
