Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose
The Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications will be responsible for various duties with the Marketing and Communications department including, but not limited to, serving as liaison between coaches, student-athletes, administrators and representatives from the media, campus and community as well as create and execute marketing strategies for Pacific Athletics. This position will serve as the department’s liaison to the local and national media, pitching stories and creating engaging content to highlight and showcase Pacific Athletics. This position ensures alignment between marketing campaigns, creative storytelling, digital platforms, and communications efforts to elevate the Pacific Athletics brand and drive attendance, engagement, and revenue. This position will lead the marketing and communications strategy for the Men’s Basketball program and other assigned sports.
Essential Functions
- Lead the marketing and communications strategies for assigned sport programs including Men’s Basketball.
- Direct and coordinate all strategic communications efforts to include managing and implementing a strategic communications plan and delivering key messages to internal and external stakeholders.
- Direct storytelling initiatives across digital, video, social, and written platforms.
- Collaborate with Creative Services to produce compelling content highlighting student-athletes, coaches, and program success.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with traditional and new media across all channels in Pacific Athletics important markets; maintain regular contact with media sources and conduct campus media events annually to pitch Pacific Athletics strategic marketing and communication initiatives.
- Oversee marketing campaigns focused on attendance growth, fan engagement, and revenue generation.
- Oversee the strategy and implementation of social media for assigned sports, developing engaging content that increases brand awareness, fan engagement, and attendance.
- Collaborate with the team for Marketing Strategy to develop and cultivate relationships across campus and implement initiatives to increase student, staff, and faculty attendance and engagement at athletic events.
- Develop programming to improve gameday atmosphere including, videoboard content, halftime shows, in-game promotions, sponsor activations, fan contests, and other entertainment elements.
- Work with senior level athletic administrators and athletic coaches on media pitches, interviews, media training and strategic story development.
- Advise and counsel athletic leadership on issues management and media relations; prepares research, white papers, speeches, media kits, talking points and other relevant materials.
- Hire, train, and supervise game day media relations, game operations, and marketing and promotional staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three (3) or more years of professional experience in athletics marketing, communications, or a related field are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of various media forms and communication methods used in the industry.
- Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to get the message across by adopting a range of styles, tools, and techniques appropriate to the audience and nature of information.
- Ability to deal with a wide range of people with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, both internally and externally.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to proactively identify communications opportunities and develop supporting programs.
- Working knowledge of publishing software, MS Office, video editing software, and various content management software systems.
- Working knowledge of marketing on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Sideon Sports, and Inflcr, etc
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment and in sports facilities. Work is typically performed during regular business hours; however, evening and weekend work may be required. Travel is required to support assigned teams at away competitions.
Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range
$70,304.00–$72,727.27 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
