Director of Marketing & Public Relations

AGENCY DESCRIPTION The Florida Department of Citrus is a marketing and research agency utilizing progressive insights to maximize demand for Florida Citrus through a fully integrated marketing and public relations program. Based in Central Florida (Bartow), FDOC is responsible for domestic and international marketing, research and regulation of the $6.8 billion Florida Citrus industry.

The Florida Department of Citrus seeks a dynamic marketing and communications professional to lead the domestic and international marketing programs and activities to promote Florida Citrus products in support of the Florida Citrus industry. The Director of Global Marketing is responsible for the planning, development, execution and measurement of a variety of marketing tactics including eCommerce, retail (online and in-store), trade, digital advertising, paid media, social media, spokespeople, influencers, earned media, media relations, websites and pay-to-play opportunities to promote Florida Citrus products in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada and Europe. This position reports to the Executive Director, serves on the executive leadership team and will lead a high-energy internal team along with powerful agency partners. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct and oversee the development, implementation and evaluations of all global marketing programs for the Florida Department of Citrus (FDOC).
  • Direct the activities of all global marketing staff under this position’s supervision as well as agencies contracted by the FDOC.
  • Direct and manage the annual strategic planning process for domestic and international programs plans and proposed budgets.
  • Provide detailed presentations annually of the Department’s proposed program plans and budget to the Florida Citrus Commission (FCC) and industry organizations to ensure consensus among industry.
  • Branding
    • Develop, implement and manage the global FDOC brand.
    • Direct the development and implementation of FDOC brand guidelines for all staff, industry and agencies to follow.
    • Direct the development of assets including video, photos, publications, digital artwork, etc and ensure brand standards are met. Direct the maintenance of an asset library for use globally.
  • Domestic and International Marketing:
    • Direct and manage the planning, development, execution and measurement of a variety of marketing tactics including eCommerce, retail – online and in-store, trade, digital advertising, paid media, social media, spokespeople, influencers, earned media, media relations and pay-to-play opportunities to promote Florida Citrus products in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada and Europe.
    • Direct and maintain the suite of FDOC websites.
    • Direct and manage the development and execution of a variety of program measurement tools including but not limited to surveys, focus groups, sales reports, mixed media models, ROI reports, etc.
    • Manage assigned budgets and departmental assets and equipment
  • Strategic Communications and Media Relations:
    • Direct the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan for internal and external audiences.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of an overall issues management plan to protect against all issues that stand to threaten the Florida Citrus industry.
    • Direct and oversee the implementation of reactive and proactive issues management initiatives.
  • Responsible for management of all assigned contracts and state and FDOC guidelines, policies and procedures are followed appropriately Manage and provide overall direction to domestic and international agencies of record.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with orange juice brands/processors.
  • Direct and manage the application process of funding from the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) and the ongoing relationships with FAS and US Embassy Agriculture Trade Offices.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and Florida Citrus industry leaders.
  • Represent the Global Marketing Department at the Florida Citrus Commission (FCC) and represent the FDOC and Executive Director at industry and trade meetings/events, seminars, conferences and governmental meetings as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director (may include lifting/carrying a 4/5 bushel carton of Fresh Florida Citrus (50 lbs.).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, public relations, communications or related field.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the areas of marketing, public relations, media relations, or related area.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through published writing examples, strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual problem-solving ability. Ability to process and incorporate feedback.
  • Ability to conduct research using a variety of resources and channels to effectively communicate on diverse topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of the organization and in the industry.
  • Ability to effectively lead an internal team and agency partners. Able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Basic understanding of AI platforms and a readiness to leverage AI tools and innovations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • This position is based at the FDOC office in Bartow, FL. This is not a Remote/Work from Home position.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field.
  • Experience marketing and promoting food products or consumer packaged goods.
  • Intermediate or proficient skills in graphic, video and/or web software such as Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud programs, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, CMS, Word Press, or related programs.
