Opportunity Overview: Director of Marketing & External Relations
Boys & Girls Clubs of King County (BGCKC) seeks a strategic and collaborative Director of Marketing & External Relations to elevate the organization's brand, increase enrollment across 50+ programs, and strengthen community engagement and philanthropic support.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this leader oversees integrated marketing, communications, public relations, and external partnerships to drive awareness, engagement, and organizational growth. The Director leads an internal team and manages external partners to ensure marketing efforts deliver measurable results and advance BGCKC's mission.
As a member of the leadership team, the Director contributes to organizational planning and works collaboratively across departments to support long-term sustainability and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Brand Leadership
- Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities and growth goals.
- Serve as steward of the BGCKC brand, ensuring consistent messaging and storytelling across all channels.
- Establish goals and metrics to measure marketing effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Use data and market insights to inform strategy and maximize organizational impact.
Communications & Storytelling
- Oversee digital communications, social media, publications, content strategy, and media relations.
- Partner with Development to support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and stewardship initiatives.
- Advise leadership on communications strategy, reputation management, and public-facing messaging.
- Ensure communications reflect BGCKC's commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth development.
External Relations & Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, corporate partners, donors, media, and civic leaders to strengthen BGCKC's visibility and impact.
- Represent the organization with professionalism and credibility across a variety of external audiences.
- Support organizational events, partnerships, and initiatives that advance awareness and community engagement.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team.
- Manage agency and vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and brand standards.
- Partner closely with Program, Operations, and Development leaders to support enrollment, fundraising, and organizational priorities.
- Contribute as a member of the leadership team to strategic planning and cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Seven or more years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or external affairs.
- Demonstrated success leading integrated marketing and communications initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, agencies, and external partnerships.
- Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate insights into action.
- Nonprofit experience preferred; experience in youth development, education, human services, or mission-driven organizations is highly valued.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required
- Ability to pass a thorough background check including a National Criminal History Background check

HOURS: Regular Full-time, 40 Hours Per Week

SALARY: $110,000/yr. - $125,000/yr.

The Boys Club of Bakersfield began in 1966 serving 25 youth in East Bakersfield, and today, as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County we operate a standalone Club in East Bakersfield, Southwest Bakersfield, and Lamont along with 59 school-based sites in Bakersfield, Arvin, Lamont, Frazier Park. Shafter and Wasco serving approximately 15,000 youth annually. Our mission is "to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."
