This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Birmingham Public Schools is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and visionary communications leader who believes public education has the power to transform lives and strengthen communities. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Director of Marketing, Communications & Community Engagement serves as the district's chief communications strategist and storyteller, helping ensure every interaction with families, staff, students, and the community reflects the excellence of Birmingham Public Schools.
This position provides strategic leadership for district marketing, communications, media relations, enrollment strategy, family engagement, community partnerships, branding, and crisis communications. The Director develops and implements a unified communications strategy that strengthens public trust, supports student enrollment and retention, celebrates the accomplishments of students and staff, and communicates the district's vision with clarity, transparency, and authenticity.
The Director works closely with district and school leaders to tell the story of Birmingham Public Schools, elevate the district's reputation, and ensure families feel informed, welcomed, and connected from their first interaction with the district through graduation. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator, relationship builder, strategic thinker, and trusted advisor who is passionate about public education and committed to creating meaningful connections between schools and the communities they serve.
