The Director of Land Finance provides strategic leadership and oversight of land finance operations across Minto Communities’ U.S. portfolio. This role partners closely with Land Development, Finance, Accounting, and executive leadership to drive disciplined capital allocation, evaluate land acquisitions, oversee financial performance of land development projects, and ensure the integrity and optimization of land-related financial systems and processes.
This position serves as the enterprise leader for land financial strategy, modeling standards, reporting, and business systems, while developing and mentoring land finance talent. The Director plays a critical role in executive decision-making, long-range planning, and continuous improvement initiatives that support scalable growth.
Here’s how you’ll contribute
Strategic Finance & Capital Management
Provide executive-level oversight of financial modeling for land acquisitions, project financing, joint ventures, and projects under construction, including cash flow forecasts, sources and uses, return analyses, and risk assessments.
Responsibility in the workflow for draws and other payment requests.
Establish and enforce standardized land underwriting and financial evaluation frameworks across all divisions.
Partner with senior Land Development leadership to assess deal structures, timing, capital requirements, and strategic trade-offs.
Support long-range land pipeline planning and portfolio-level performance analysis.
Provide land finance insights and recommendations to executive leadership to support investment and capital allocation decisions.
Financial Oversight & Governance
Oversee land-related accounting cycles, deliverables, and reporting in coordination with Corporate Finance and Accounting teams.
Ensure accuracy and consistency in budgeting, forecasting, job costing, cash flow reporting, bonding schedules, and variance analysis.
Reconcile balance sheet and job cost postings at month end.
Review of HOA annual budgets, cash flow projections, and templates.
Establish and maintain a comprehensive annual finance and accounting calendar for land operations.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and best practices across land finance activities.
Systems Leadership & Process Excellence
Serve as the strategic leader for land development financial systems, including LandDev, NewStar, InformXL, and related reporting and analytics tools.
Oversee system integrations, data integrity, governance, and optimization across divisions.
Lead digital transformation initiatives related to land finance, reporting automation, dashboards, and data-driven decision-making.
Partner with IT, corporate finance, and third-party vendors on system design, enhancements, testing, prioritization, and implementation.
Champion continuous improvement by designing scalable, efficient, and well-documented land finance processes.
Leadership & People Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the Land Finance team, including managers and analysts, ensuring strong bench strength and succession planning.
Establish performance expectations, coaching plans, and development pathways for land finance professionals.
Oversee onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development related to systems, processes, and financial acumen.
Foster strong cross-functional relationships with Land Development, Operations, Accounting, IT, and executive leadership.
Cross-Functional & Executive Partnership
Act as a trusted financial advisor to land and executive leadership.
Translate complex financial analysis into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
Represent Land Finance in executive forums, strategic planning sessions, and cross-functional initiatives.
Support organizational growth by aligning land finance strategy with corporate objectives.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree required (Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field)
Master’s Degree (MBA, MS Finance, or equivalent) and/or CPA strongly preferred
Experience
Extensive finance and accounting experience in real estate development (homebuilding strongly preferred)
Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex cross-functional initiatives
Deep experience with enterprise financial systems and digital transformation programs (e.g., Power BI)
Demonstrated success leading large-scale process improvement and system implementation efforts
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Advanced financial modeling, analytical, and quantitative skills
Strong business acumen with deep understanding of residential land development
Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and job costing
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and execution levels
High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting tools
Experience with Constellation NewStar Enterprise, LandDev, and InformXL preferred
