Job Description

Microsoft Copilot is looking for an Internal Communications Director to help shape the narrative, communications rhythm, and employee engagement strategy for one of the most dynamic and high-priority product organizations at Microsoft.

This role will serve as a strategic communications partner to senior leadership, translating business direction, product evolution, organizational change, and leadership priorities into clear, compelling internal narratives. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who can operate at both the strategic and hands-on level: building the broader communications architecture while also developing high-quality messaging, leadership materials, employee communications, talking points, and internal content.

This is a role for someone who is energized by ambiguity, pace, and complexity. The organization is moving quickly, the product landscape is evolving, and the internal story needs to help employees understand not only what is changing, but why it matters. The right candidate will bring mature judgment, strong writing ability, deep stakeholder instincts, and experience communicating with technical, product-oriented, and high-growth teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive the internal communications strategy for a large, fast-moving product organization, ensuring employees understand the organization’s priorities, direction, culture, and narrative arc over time.

  • Translate leadership vision and business priorities into clear internal storylines, messaging frameworks, and communications plans that can scale across audiences, channels, and leadership rhythms.

  • Partner closely with senior leaders to shape internal messaging, prepare leadership communications, and create materials such as organization-wide emails, talking points, all-hands content, SharePoint content, presentations, Q&A, and other employee-facing communications.

  • Build the internal narrative architecture for the organization, connecting product evolution, organizational change, employee sentiment, leadership priorities, and Microsoft’s broader AI opportunity into a cohesive story.

  • Establish and improve communications channels, cadences, and information flow so employees receive the right context at the right time and leaders have effective mechanisms for communicating consistently and credibly.

  • Work across functions and stakeholder groups to understand audience needs, identify communication gaps, align priorities, and create messaging that resonates with employees in technical, product, and innovation-focused environments.

  • Support communications through periods of change, including organizational updates, shifting priorities, new operating models, leadership moments, and broader business transformation.

  • Partner with more tactical communications operators while owning the broader strategic layer, ensuring execution is connected to an intentional internal communications strategy.

  • Use data, employee feedback, internal listening signals, and stakeholder input to evaluate communications effectiveness and continuously improve message clarity, channel usage, and employee understanding.

  • Help leaders create two-way dialogue with employees and reinforce a culture that feels innovative, high-conviction, human-centered, and connected to the broader Microsoft AI mission.
