Job Description

The Director of Infrastructure is responsible for the strategic direction, architecture, management, and continuous improvement of Farmers & Merchants Bank's enterprise infrastructure and technology operations. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role oversees networks, cloud platforms, data centers, workplace technologies, and infrastructure service delivery to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable technology services that support business objectives, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. The Director establishes infrastructure standards, service levels, performance metrics, and long-term technology roadmaps while leading infrastructure modernization and operational efficiency initiatives.

This position develops long-term infrastructure roadmaps and architectures, establishes service level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational metrics, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance performance, resiliency, security, and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Strategy & Architecture
  • Develops and executes the Bank's enterprise infrastructure strategy, architecture roadmap, and technology standards.
  • Defines long-term infrastructure plans that support business growth, operational scalability, regulatory requirements, and technology modernization initiatives.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies, industry trends, and leading practices to improve infrastructure capabilities and service delivery.
  • Leads infrastructure transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption, automation, platform modernization, and lifecycle management.
  • Enterprise Infrastructure Management
  • Provides leadership and oversight for enterprise infrastructure including networks, cloud services, servers, storage, virtualization platforms, telecommunications, data center technologies, and workplace technologies.
  • Ensures infrastructure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned with business and technology objectives.
  • Oversee infrastructure design, engineering, implementation, maintenance, and operational support activities.
  • Service Delivery & Operational Excellence
  • Establishes infrastructure service delivery standards and operational procedures.
  • Defines and monitors service level agreements (SLAs), operational level agreements (OLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and service metrics.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve service quality, customer experience, operational efficiency, and infrastructure performance.
  • Ensures the availability, reliability, and performance of critical technology platforms and services.
  • Security, Risk & Compliance
  • Partners with Information Security to implement infrastructure security controls, monitoring, vulnerability management, patch management, identity management, and secure configuration standards.
  • Supports compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, security standards, audit requirements, and Bank policies.
  • Participate in technology risk assessments, audits, regulatory examinations, and remediation activities.
  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
  • Oversees business continuity and disaster recovery strategies for infrastructure systems and services.
  • Ensure recovery solutions meet organizational resilience objectives.
  • Directs disaster recovery testing, infrastructure recovery planning, and operational resiliency initiatives.
  • Vendor & Financial Management
  • Manages infrastructure-related vendors, service providers, contracts, licensing agreements, and technology partners.
  • Develops and manages infrastructure operating and capital budgets.
  • Identifies cost optimization opportunities while maintaining service quality and performance standards.
  • Oversees procurement, vendor performance reviews, and contract negotiations.
  • Leadership & Talent Development
  • Leads, mentors, and develops infrastructure engineering and operations teams.
  • Establishes departmental goals, performance expectations, and development plans.
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
  • Governance & Executive Reporting
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to the Chief Technology Officer regarding infrastructure investments, operational risks, service performance, and technology priorities.
  • Provides executive reporting on infrastructure health, service delivery performance, strategic initiatives, project status, and operational risks.
  • Establishes governance processes that promote service quality, operational transparency, and infrastructure maturity.

Compliance Responsibilities

Complies with all applicable state and federal banking laws, regulations, and internal policies related but not limited to lending, operations, and deposit requirements, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, Customer Identification Program (CIP) requirements, Financial Elder Abuse reporting laws, Sexual Harassment prevention policies, information security and privacy requirements.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive infrastructure, engineering, or technology operations experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience managing technology teams and enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Experience within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry preferred.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments, infrastructure modernization, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and vendor management preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, CISM, Azure, AWS, CCNP, or PMP preferred.

Minimum Absence Requirement

Some positions within the Bank have been designated as sensitive positions due to access to critical systems, records, or processes. In accordance with Bank policy and sound internal‑control practices, employees in sensitive positions are required to complete a mandatory consecutive absence from essential duties each calendar year to support segregation of duties and independent review.

The required absence will be scheduled in coordination with management to ensure continuity of operations. Administration of absence, including paid or unpaid status, will comply with all applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour and leave laws, including California requirements.

Required Minimum Absence for This Position: (2) Consecutive Weeks

Officer Title Eligibility

For qualified positions, the Bank may designate an Officer Title based on the role’s job level, scope of responsibility, and alignment with established competency frameworks. Eligibility for an Officer Title designation is contingent upon the employee meeting defined competency, performance, and experience requirements and is governed by applicable Bank policies, governance standards, and required approval processes.

Compensation

The listed range represents the full compensation range for this position. Placement within the range will be determined based on factors including skills, relevant experience, job‑related qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity, in accordance with Bank compensation policies.

  • Exempt Salary Range: $176,540 – $327,860 per year
