Job Description

The Director of Housekeeping and Laundry is responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of the facility. This position manages the housekeeping team to ensure compliance with infection control standards, survey readiness, and a welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily supervision and scheduling of housekeeping staff to ensure adequate coverage across all facility areas.
  • Perform inspections of resident rooms, common areas, and restrooms to maintain regulatory and facility cleanliness standards.
  • Train and coach staff on cleaning protocols, infection control procedures, and use of equipment and chemicals.
  • Monitor inventory and order housekeeping supplies as needed.
  • Support survey readiness by ensuring documentation, cleaning schedules, and logs are maintained
  • Participate in room turnovers, terminal cleaning, and deep cleaning projects as needed.
  • Assist with quality assurance audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CMS, and state regulations regarding environmental safety and housekeeping operations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Working knowledge of housekeeping procedures, infection control, and safety standards in healthcare.
  • Leadership and communication skills to direct and motivate staff.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and delegate tasks efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in managing time and handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (2) year of leadership role in housekeeping or environmental services experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.

Preferred:

  • Prior supervisory experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for skilled nursing facilities.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting (10–50 lbs), and pushing carts up to 300 lbs with assistance.
  • Frequent exposure to cleaning agents, odors, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays when required
