
Crown Graduate Program in Health Administration
As one of the first schools of social work in the United States, the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice has shaped the field for more than 100 years. Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy (GPHAP) is housed in the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and has assembled a rich and diverse set of intellectual resources from across the university for students who are looking to make an impact in the health care field. The next generation of health care leaders will require not only a diverse skill set and an entrepreneurial spirit, but deep interdisciplinary training in health care systems and health equity—the kind of world-renowned training offered at the University of Chicago—in order to tackle the health care policy, program and management issues of today.
GPHAP was founded in 1934 and is unique among health programs in the United States in recognizing this and draws students out of silos to connect and blend their expertise to solve the complex problems of our time. GPHAP enables students to earn either a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy or a Certificate in Health Administration and Policy with a Concentration in Global Health, while earning a degree in one of the participating graduate schools on campus: The Booth School of Business, the Harris School of Public Policy, The Law School, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice.
This individual in this part-time, benefits-eligible position directs the Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy (GPHAP) which serves students across five schools: the Crown School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice; Booth School of Business; the Law School; Pritzker School of Medicine; and Harris School of Public Policy. GPHAP includes both a U.S. and global health track. The Director serves as the primary contact with approximately 90 students regarding recruitment and participation in the program. The Director is engaged in student orientation, tracking completion of GPHAP requirements, placements in internships, and coordination and management of connections to over 1000 GPHAP Alumni. The Director communicates with staff and faculty across all five participating schools for recruitment and to connect GPHAP students to interdisciplinary activities across the university and the medical center. The Director works with entities across the university such as the Deans of Students at all the schools to communicate how GPHAP connects to the requirements of their programs, the University Registrar to assure that GPHAP certification is reflected on student transcripts, and the Chief of Staff to executive leadership at UChicago Medicine to coordinate summer internships at the medical center. The Director manages communications to GPHAP students, which include a weekly newsletter, the GPHAP website, canvas site, listservs, and social media. The Director manages the activities of a student intern during the academic year.
The average weekly hours of the position are 20/week, with variations based on peak times and weekly activities, as approved in advance from the manager. The individual will be paid based on actual hours worked, as this is position is designated as non-exempt per the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
