Director of Golf

The Clubs at Arrowhead

The Director of Golf is responsible for the leadership and oversight of golf and designated clubhouse operations at The Clubs at Arrowhead. This position is responsible for delivering an exceptional member experience across both the King and Legend properties while creating a consistent culture of service, professionalism, and engagement.

The Director of Golf directly supervises the Head Golf Professional at each property and provides strategic leadership for golf operations, tournaments and programming, merchandising, staffing, member engagement, and designated clubhouse and Food & Beverage operations. A key responsibility of this position is effectively utilizing both golf courses and their facilities to maximize member access, programming opportunities, operational efficiency, and the overall member experience.

The Director of Golf is expected to be a highly visible leader who builds strong relationships with members, develops department leaders, and works collaboratively with Club leadership, the Golf Course Superintendents, and Food & Beverage leadership.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Golf Operations

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for golf operations at both the King and Legend properties.
  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop the Head Golf Professional at each property while holding them accountable for their respective operations.
  • Establish consistent standards for service, policies, communication, and member experience across both properties.
  • Strategically utilize both golf courses to maximize member access, tee time availability, tournament scheduling, programming, and the overall golf experience.
  • Provide oversight of golf shops, outside services, tee sheet management, pace of play, instruction, merchandising, and daily golf operations.
  • Maintain a visible presence at both properties and promote collaboration between the two teams.

Member Experience & Programming

  • Build strong relationships with members and serve as a senior point of contact for golf and clubhouse-related concerns.
  • Develop a strong annual calendar of tournaments, leagues, member events, and instructional opportunities.
  • Work with men's, women's, couples', junior, and other member golf groups to encourage participation and strengthen the golf community.
  • Develop and grow junior golf, instructional programs, clinics, and other player-development opportunities.
  • Continually evaluate member feedback, participation, and operations to identify opportunities to improve the member experience.

Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Head Golf Professionals in recruiting, training, scheduling, and developing golf professional and outside-services teams.
  • Establish expectations for professionalism, communication, appearance, and member service.
  • Develop department leaders and create a culture of accountability, teamwork, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and labor management across both properties.

Clubhouse & Food and Beverage

  • Provide leadership and oversight for designated clubhouse and Food & Beverage responsibilities associated with the golf properties.
  • Work collaboratively with Food & Beverage leadership to ensure dining and beverage services complement the golf experience.
  • Coordinate golf tournaments, outings, member events, and other activities requiring cooperation between golf and Food & Beverage operations.
  • Monitor the overall clubhouse experience and address operational issues affecting service, presentation, cleanliness, and member satisfaction.

Course Coordination

  • Maintain strong working relationships with the Golf Course Superintendents and their respective maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate golf operations with maintenance activities, tournaments, closures, overseeding, and other events affecting course availability.
  • Effectively utilize both golf courses during maintenance or operational disruptions to minimize the impact on members.
  • Assist with clear and timely communication regarding course conditions and operational decisions.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets in partnership with Club leadership.
  • Monitor revenues, expenses, payroll, merchandise performance, and other key operating metrics.
  • Hold department leaders accountable for established financial and operational goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance while maintaining a strong focus on member value and experience.

Leadership Expectations

The Director of Golf is expected to be visible, approachable, and actively engaged at both properties. This individual should lead through and develop the Head Golf Professionals, create accountability throughout the operation, and promote collaboration between golf, Food & Beverage, clubhouse, and golf course maintenance teams.

The Director of Golf should be a proactive leader who takes ownership of challenges, communicates effectively, and continually looks for opportunities to improve the member experience.

Qualifications

  • PGA membership required.
  • Significant leadership experience in golf operations, preferably within a private club environment.
  • Experience managing multiple sites or a 36-hole golf operation strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing and developing Head Golf Professionals, department heads, or other managers preferred.
  • Experience with clubhouse, hospitality, or Food & Beverage operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of golf operations, tournament administration, merchandising, staffing, and private club operations.
  • Demonstrated financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with members, employees, and department leaders.

Measures of Success

Success will be measured by member satisfaction and engagement, quality and consistency of operations across both properties, development and performance of the Head Golf Professionals and their teams, financial performance, and effective collaboration between golf, Food & Beverage, clubhouse, and golf course maintenance operations.

Work Environment

This position requires a flexible schedule based on Club needs, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and special events. The Director of Golf is expected to maintain a significant presence at both properties and remain actively engaged with members, department leaders, and employees.
