A freestanding emergency department network in the San Antonio area is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services to lead two FSED locations serving diverse patient populations. The Director will be based at the Alamo Heights site and will oversee emergency care operations, clinical performance, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and staff development across both centers. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead high-performing emergency teams while ensuring exceptional, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Provide strategic and operational leadership for all freestanding emergency department services.
Identify real and potential departmental issues, develop solutions, and communicate improvements.
Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality emergency care aligned with organizational standards.
Oversee staffing, performance management, coaching, and professional development of clinical teams.
Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.
Lead patient experience initiatives and ensure evidence-based engagement practices.
Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration with Imaging, Lab, Admitting, Security, EVS, and Support Services.
Monitor and guide compliance with emergency care standards and protocols.
Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency services programs to support safe and efficient patient flow.
Manage departmental operational excellence, including workflow optimization and quality improvement programs.
Participate in committees, internal leadership meetings, and organizational projects.
Conduct rounding with staff and patients to strengthen engagement and identify improvement opportunities.
Provide leadership support for service line growth and new program development.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact license as applicable).
At least 3 years of experience in emergency services.
ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and BLS certifications.
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
3+ years of experience in a leadership role within emergency services.
Two FSED locations:
City Base ~45 patients/day, low acuity mix, staffed with an on-site Manager.
Alamo Heights ~40 patients/day, older population, ~12 FTEs, supported by CNCs.
Director will primarily be based at the Alamo Heights location.
Role reports to the Division VP of Emergency Services.
