The Director of Fleet will partner closely with Service, Operations, and Leadership teams to optimize asset utilization, minimize downtime, and enhance the overall efficiency of technician support and customer delivery. This position plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, vendor partnerships, and scalable growth across a multi-location service environment.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for material handling equipment aligned with company growth and customer demands
- Define asset lifecycle strategies including specification, acquisition, utilization, maintenance, and replacement
- Establish KPIs to track fleet and equipment performance, uptime, utilization, and total cost of ownership
- Identify opportunities to standardize assets, improve scalability, and drive operational
Fleet & Equipment Operations
- Oversee day-to-day management of material handling equipment across multiple locations
- Ensure optimal utilization of assets while minimizing downtime and customer up-time
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for material handling equipment
- Drive consistency in processes, policies, and asset management practices across all branches
Financial Management & Cost Control
- Own and manage the fleet and equipment budget, including capital planning and operating expenses
- Analyze and optimize total cost of ownership across all asset categories
- Identify cost-savings opportunities related to maintenance, utilization and procurement
- Develop business cases for capital investments, new equipment, and fleet expansion
Vendor & OEM Management
- Manage relationships with OEM partners, equipment manufacturers, and service providers
- Oversee vendor performance, contract negotiations, and service level agreements
- Partner with Procurement to source equipment, parts, etc...
- Ensure alignment with manufacturer standards, warranties, and maintenance requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong strategic and operational leadership skills with ability to drive fleet and equipment performance
- Deep knowledge of asset lifecycle management, maintenance practice, and cost optimization
- Proven financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and total cost of ownership analysis
- Ability to lead and develop teams while driving accountability and results
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder influence across Service, Operations, and Finance
- Experience managing vendors and OEM relationships, including negotiation and performance oversight
- Data driven mindset with experience leveraging systems, reporting, and telematics to improve performance
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in fleet management, equipment management, or service operations
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams across multiple locations
- Experience managing both vehicles and equipment assets in a service-driven environment
- Proven experience with budgeting, capital planning, and cost optimization initiatives
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, maintenance programs, and operational efficiency
