Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Director of Finance is responsible for leading the organization’s core financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and compliance. This role partners closely with executive leadership and operational leaders to provide financial insight, ensure fiscal discipline, and support strategic decision‑making. The Director of Finance serves as a key steward of financial integrity and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and present insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and financial close process.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic re‑forecasting cycles.
  • Partner with department leaders to develop realistic budgets aligned with strategic goals.
  • Monitor performance against budget and forecast, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Support long‑range financial planning, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.

Internal Controls, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Coordinate external audits, reviews, and tax filings in collaboration with auditors and advisors.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear goals, expectations, and performance standards for direct reports.
  • Support succession planning and capability development within the finance function.

Cross‑Functional & Strategic Support

  • Act as a trusted financial partner to operations, HR, IT, and other departments.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business cases, capital investments, and growth initiatives.
  • Improve financial processes, systems, and reporting tools to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • 8–12 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience in professional services, project‑based, or multi‑entity environments preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level presentations.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across functions.
  • High level of integrity, judgment, and business acumen.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel; financial systems implementation experience a plus.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
