About the Department:
The Fund Development department aims to develop and implement strategies to increase the funding income of Islamic Relief through a range of fundraising initiatives and through acquisition and retention of donors, volunteers and community supporters.
Job Purpose:
The Director of Fundraising serves as an essential member of Islamic Relief Canada's senior leadership team (SLT). The successful candidate will be an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting IRC. In partnership with the SLT, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build IRCs visibility, impact, and resources. The incumbent will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
They will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to increase IRCs capacity to reach those in need through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and provincial grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.
She or he will expand and diversify IRC’s donor base and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new programs. In addition, they will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and support other directors as they take on a more active fundraising role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve revenue targets across the range of revenue streams
In cooperation with the COO, lead the development of any long-term strategy to achieve agreed long term organizational goals
Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
Produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans
Ensure the Fundraising Department is kept within budget
Fundraising
Support and partner with the COO and SLT members on all major fundraising initiatives
Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to develop and implement IRCs Nonprofit's financial strategy
Actively work with the COO and SLT to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, mosque, government grants, etc.
Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach
Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position IRCs Nonprofit ahead of major funding changes or trends
Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to COO and senior leaders
Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program
Staff Management
Identify, develop, and mentor the development team
Line management of fundraising staff, including:
Setting objectives and work plans
Managing workload and performance through regular one-to-one line management discussions
Plan and implement personal development program for team members in all relevant skills
Undertake annual performance reviews
Qualifications & Competencies
Experience:
10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
Strong organizational skills
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside IRC
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
High energy and passion for IRCs mission is essential
Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Donor focus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
Demonstrable track record of Strategic Fundraising
Successful, significant and relevant achievement at management level in a comparable national/international organization
Experience of utilizing the strength of an organization brand for charity/business development
Proven track record of meeting challenging revenue targets
Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, client and donor relationships.
Experience of developing and implementing strategic and business plans
Proven track record in fundraising that has directly resulted in increased income for an organization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership skills
Track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization and/ or its services
Knowledge of the fundraising environment and of a range techniques and disciplines which will support the cost effective generation of income for IRC
Exceptionally convincing and persuasive written and oral skills with the ability to present and convey complex ideas and issues clearly and coherently
Ability to secure Senior Management and Board approval for strategy
Demonstrable ability to evaluate the type of initiatives and programs within the scope of the post and initiate, develop and deliver new initiatives that build on their successes
Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative and make decisions
Hybrid Work Policy:
IRC has a hybrid model where in-office requirements are based on distance from our Burlington headquarters or a regional office (Surrey, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa). Depending on where you live, this can range from two days a week to one day a month

Starting Salary:
