Job Description

The Program Director provides strategic, operational, educational, and clinical leadership for the ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency Program. The Program Director is responsible for accreditation compliance, curriculum oversight, faculty development, resident education, quality improvement, scholarly activity, financial stewardship, and institutional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Provide overall leadership for the Family Medicine Residency Program.
  • Maintain continuous compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and Family Medicine Program Requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that support the program's mission and institutional goals.
  • Ensure high-quality clinical education while promoting patient safety and resident well-being.
  • Lead resident recruitment, selection, promotion, remediation, and graduation.
  • Direct competency-based curriculum development and assessment.
  • Oversee faculty recruitment, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Chair or oversee the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).
  • Complete Accreditation Data System (ADS) updates, Annual Program Evaluation, and accreditation preparations.
  • Collaborate with the DIO, GMEC, hospital leadership, affiliated sites, and community partners.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, professionalism, and psychological safety.
  • Oversee scholarly activity, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Manage educational resources, budgets, and program personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience required: minimum 5 years of post-residency, 3 years of educational or administrative leadership in graduate medical education; BLS and ACLS certified; MOAB certified

Education: MD or DO from an accredited university; Board certified in Family Medicine; licensed by AL Board of Medical Examiners
