Job Description

The Pastorate of St. Paul and Resurrection seeks candidates for a Director of Faith Formation for Children, grades K-5 The Director of Faith Formation, Children shall be responsible for the recruitment of children and catechists for the catechetical programs serving children through middle school. As a member of the pastoral staff, the director is expected to communicate and cooperate with other staff members and parish committees concerned with catechesis. The director is directly responsible to the pastor.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the necessary communications with archdiocesan offices and prepare necessary reports
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Prepare and submit to the pastor and finance committee chairman an annual operating budget for the programs
  • Recruit and provide initial an ongoing formation for the catechists.
  • Design curriculum and select material in accord with the policies of the Archdiocese
  • Maintain accurate records for students and catechists
  • Supervise office personnel and volunteers
  • Function as the liaison with the school where classes are held
  • Be a source of support and resources for the catechists
  • Assist in related areas as requested by pastor

Traditional classroom Catechetical Program for grades K-5

  • Design curriculum and select materials
  • Schedule sessions
  • Recruit and provide initial and ongoing training for catechists
  • Provide resources and assistance to catechists
  • Recruit students

Immediate Sacramental Preparation for Reception of Reconciliation

  • Design curriculum and select materials
  • Schedule sessions for students and parents
  • Recruit and train a team to assist in sessions
  • Invite eligible parish families to participate in the program
  • Provide pastoral follow-up to those who do not accept the invitation
  • Participate in planning the liturgies for First Reconciliation
  • Supervise record keeping of those who received
  • Provide pastoral follow-up for those who were not yet ready to receive

Immediate Sacramental Preparation for Reception of the Eucharist

  • Design curriculum and select materials
  • Schedule sessions for students and parents
  • Recruit and train a team to assist in sessions
  • Invite eligible parish families to participate in the program
  • Provide pastoral follow-up to those who do not accept the invitation
  • Participate in planning the liturgies for First Eucharist
  • Supervise record keeping of those who received

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Adapted for Children and Youth

  • Design curriculum and select materials
  • Recruit and provide initial and ongoing training for catechists
  • Provide resources and assistance to the team
  • Schedule sessions and liturgical celebrations

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

  • Recruit and provide initial and ongoing training for the catechists
  • Provide materials and assistance to the catechists for their weekly preparation
  • Schedule catechists for the Masses as needed

Vacation Bible Camp

  • Recruit and provide training for catechists and other volunteers
  • Select materials with input from volunteers
  • Supervise sessions and activities
  • Serve as a resource person for volunteer director of Bible School.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, or related field preferred; current advanced catechist certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in a church or school setting, or commensurate experience as a volunteer catechist required.
  • Must be a practicing Catholic and demonstrate an active commitment to the Church's mission and to the sharing of that mission with children and youth.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults and children of all ages.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting.
  • Outstanding computer skills, with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products, experience in our database Ministry Platform, and email via Flocknotes preferred.

Pay Rate: $45,000, Annualized
