Job Description

Position: Director of Facilities Engineering & Maintenance
Department: Stadium Operations
Reports to: Senior Director of Stadium Operations and Facilities
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

This role will direct the Manager of Engineering, Union Carpenters and Painters, and the Mechanical/Fleet shop. Provide leadership and oversight of all stadium and practice facility systems operations, including building systems, preventative maintenance programs, and trade shop performance. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and readiness of all stadium systems to support daily operations and events. Serve as the primary leader for facilities systems readiness during events and provide oversight of capital planning and renovation/construction efforts, with a primary emphasis on maintenance, operations, and system optimization.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Lead and direct the Manager of Engineering, including oversight of HVAC, plumbing, BMS/controls, and electrical systems.
2. Oversee and lead Union Carpenters and Painters in both preventative maintenance and repair activities.
3. Direct and manage the Mechanical/Fleet shop, including vehicles, equipment, and lift maintenance.
4. Organize, track, and supervise the stadium’s preventative maintenance program through the CMMS/work order system.
5. Establish, monitor, and enforce work order completion standards, response times, and service levels (in coordination with the Manager of Engineering).
6. Direct and lead staff in all pre-game checks and ensure facilities systems readiness for events; serve as primary decision maker for facilities-related issues during events.
7. Develop and maintain asset lifecycle strategies, including repair vs. replacement decision-making.
8. Lead utilities optimization efforts, including monitoring and improving energy and water usage in accordance with the Organization’s Sustainability Program.
9. Establish and maintain operating and capital budgets related to facilities, maintenance, and capital improvements.
10. Lead capital planning efforts and develop annual capital requests aligned with facility needs and long-term strategy.
11. Provide oversight of renovation and construction projects, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and minimizing disruption to stadium and practice facility activities.
12. Lead and develop a data-driven maintenance organization, including the establishment of KPIs and performance metrics.
13. Lead staff during critical incidents and emergency situations, ensuring coordinated and effective response.
COMPETENCIES:
1. Strong understanding of building systems operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and controls.
2. Working knowledge of construction processes, project management principles, and capital project delivery.
3. Ability to budget, plan, and control operating and capital costs.
4. Experience with CMMS systems and preventative maintenance program management.
5. Data-driven decision-making with the ability to analyze performance metrics and drive improvements.
6. Problem Solving — Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
7. Oral Communication — Speaks clearly and persuasively; listens and obtains clarification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Light office duties and activities.
2. Mobility to walk the stadium, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces.
3. Ability to respond to on-site operational and emergency situations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
2. 10+ years of progressive experience in facilities operations, maintenance, or engineering leadership. Sports and Entertainment venue experience is preferred.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of building systems operations and infrastructure maintenance.
5. Working knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture principles.
6. Experience in large venues, stadiums, or complex facilities preferred.
7. LEED Professional Designation in Operations and Maintenance a plus.
8. HVAC system operation and/or controls experience a plus.
