Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced professional leader to join our organization as Director of Facilities & Engineering. As Director of Facilities & Engineering, you will oversee all aspects of our Facilities and Engineering operations, ensuring our physical infrastructure and engineering systems function effectively and efficiently. You will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to optimize our facilities' performance, enhance operational efficiency, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in facilities management, engineering, and leadership, with a proven track record of success in managing large-scale facilities and complex engineering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive facilities and engineering strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the facilities and engineering teams, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall performance.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in facilities management and engineering, integrating new technologies and innovations into operations.
  • Facilities Management:
  • Oversee the planning, construction, renovation, and maintenance of all company facilities, including offices, manufacturing plants, warehouses, distribution centers, retail plazas, and supermarkets.
  • Lead local and state Planning and Zoning, Land Use, and Building permitting for all company locations.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs to ensure the proper functioning of all facilities, including refrigeration, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, security systems, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Monitor and manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements to ensure service quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Implement and maintain environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees.
  • Implement and maintain food safety and quality policies and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Administer energy procurement and contracts for company locations.
  • Oversee Emergency Response Operations related to distribution facility refrigeration systems.
  • Coordinate and manage emergency and restoration operations related to storm events, loss of power, flooding, and/or other events for all company locations to ensure public and employee safety and to minimize the impact on operations.
  • Manage facility-related insurance loss-prevention initiatives to include physical structures and equipment, and human element programs to reduce overall risk exposure.
  • Develop and execute logistics requirements for company charitable and special event functions.
  • Engineering:
  • Manage the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of engineering systems, such as production equipment, utilities, and automation systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements, automation initiatives, and technology upgrades to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Provide design and development support for company retail operations, including supermarkets and other food service businesses.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards and industry best practices in engineering operations.
  • Lead efforts to optimize energy usage, reduce waste, and implement sustainable practices across facilities and engineering operations.
  • Budgeting and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage the facilities and engineering budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and cost control measures.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on the performance of facilities and engineering operations, including key metrics and KPIs.
  • Team Development and Management:
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of facilities and engineering professionals.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Promote professional development and training opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by leadership

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday
  • Standard Business Hours
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed based on projects and business needs
  • Travel required up to 50% of the year based on project scope

Compensation

  • $164,000 - $200,000

Environment:

  • Warehouse Office 65*F- 75*F
  • Varying temperatures based on working projects

Experience

  • Preferred: Five (5) years of experience facilities management, engineering, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership position
  • Preferred: Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and regulatory requirements including PSM, RMP, HACCP, and FSMA programs
  • Preferred: Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale facilities and complex engineering systems
  • Preferred: Bachelors degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field (Masters preferred)
  • Preferred: Strong knowledge of environmental regulations including CAA, CWA, SWPPP, SPCC, RCRA, EPCRA
  • Preferred: Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management a plus
  • Preferred: Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with associates and leadership

Skills

  • Safety Culture: Maintain and drive safety policies to all associates; driving for accountability of safe practices throughout shift
  • Physical abilities: May be required to lift up to 75lbs.; the ability to operate required facility equipment; Ability to stand, walk and sit throughout your day; Walking on a variety of flooring such as carpet, concrete, tile etc;
  • Strong communication Skills: Ability to provide & receive constructive feedback; communication of expectations and directions clearly
