Job Description

The essential responsibilities of the Director of Extended Care include, but are not limited to:

Program Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee all daily operations of the before-care, after-care, and enrichment programs.
  • Source and onboard (in compliance with ADW policy and documents) local enrichment providers of all after school activities.
  • Create and monitor registration forms and communicate with families about registrations for before-care, after-care, and fall, winter, and spring enrichment activities.
  • Develop and maintain age-appropriate schedules, routines, and enrichment activities.
  • Ensure smooth student check-in/check-out procedures and accurate attendance tracking.
  • Establish and maintain program policies, procedures, and safety protocols ensuring family compliance through the Extended Care Handbook.
  • Monitor program quality and continuously improve offerings based on student and family needs.

Student Supervision & Engagement

  • Provide daily, active supervision to ensure student safety, well-being, and positive behavior.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.
  • Design engaging recreational, academic, and enrichment activities.
  • Support students’ social-emotional growth through positive behavior guidance and conflict resolution.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate extended care staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing ratios are always maintained.
  • Lead regular staff meetings to promote consistency and program excellence.

Family Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding extended care.
  • Communicate program registrations, billing, updates, expectations, and student concerns clearly and professionally.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents and guardians to support student success.
  • Address concerns and resolve issues promptly and thoughtfully.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with school policies and applicable licensing/regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain emergency procedures, incident reporting, and health/safety protocols.
  • Administer first aid or coordinate emergency response when needed.
  • Ensure secure release of students to authorized caregivers only.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage registration, enrollment, attendance, and billing records.
  • Track program supplies and oversee purchasing within budget guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Coordinate with school administration on program planning and resource allocation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with school-age children
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Background clearance as required by school and local regulations

Preferred

  • Experience managing before-care or after-care programs
  • Familiarity with Catholic school environments
  • Training in behavior management or social-emotional learning
  • Experience with student information and billing systems
