The Director EHSS is a visible, field-oriented leader who actively engages on the shopfloor, fostering a strong EHS culture through proximity, coaching, and hands-on support to operations.

RESPONSABILITIES

1. EHSS Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and lead the site EHSS strategy aligned with BMS global priorities and manufacturing network strategy.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Site Head and SLT on EHSS risks, trade-offs, and priorities.
  • Drive integration of EHSS considerations into site strategy, operations, and investment decisions.
  • Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and accountability across all site functions and campus.

2. EHSS Management System & Compliance

  • Implement and sustain the EHSS Management System to ensure safe, sustainable, and compliant operations.
  • Ensure compliance with global EHSS standards, local regulations, and legal obligations.
  • Oversee risk identification, hazard assessment, and mitigation (e.g., HIRAC framework).
  • Lead internal audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions, ensuring inspection readiness at all times, while positioning EHSS as a value-adding partner through coaching, support, and problem-solving alongside operational teams.

3. Risk-Based Safety & Operational Excellence

  • Drive a shift toward proactive, risk-based EHSS management, embedding EHSS into daily operations.
  • Define site risk tolerance and ensure critical risks are identified, prioritized, and controlled.
  • Lead programs such as Life Saving Rules, process safety, contractor safety, and high-hazard work management.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness, crisis management, and business continuity planning are robust and effective.
  • Ensure strong field presence through regular Gemba walks, safety observations, and direct engagement with frontline teams to identify risks and co-develop practical solutions.

4. Sustainability & Environmental Leadership

  • Lead site sustainability strategy aligned with BMS environmental and sustainability goals.
  • Oversee environmental programs including waste, emissions, water, and energy management.
  • Ensure accurate sustainability data collection, reporting, and compliance with global standards.
  • Promote initiatives that reduce environmental footprint and enhance long-term operational resilience.

5. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Define KPIs and metrics to monitor EHSS performance and drive accountability across the site.
  • Lead performance reviews, governance forums (e.g., Safety Council), and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement using CAPA, root cause analysis, and learning from incidents.
  • Leverage digital tools and analytics to enhance EHSS performance and decision-making.

6. Stakeholder Engagement & Culture

  • Build strong partnerships with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, HR, and Global EHSS, acting as a trusted and pragmatic partner to operations.
  • Coach and support line leaders and supervisors in embedding EHS into daily management and decision-making.
  • Lead EHSS communications, training, and engagement initiatives to strengthen workforce capability.
  • Promote a culture of shared accountability, where EHS is owned by the business and supported by EHSS, not delegated to it.

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing EHSS team.
  • Build technical capabilities across safety, health, environmental, and sustainability domains.
  • Strengthen site self-reliance and reduce dependency on external support through capability building.
