Job Description

Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Central Desk Senior Director Design, you will lead your team to deliver hotel opening and renovation projects’ technical review and support across EMEAA region.

Key Accountabilities:

In delivering your support, you will be providing assurance that our Hotels are and remain compliant to our Brand Standards, are safe & secure for colleagues & guest, are delivering energy, water & waste efficiency and are positively progressing on IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow commitment of being zero or low carbon in their design and build. In your role, you will be fully aware of and committed to maintaining your knowledge and understanding of new technology and the solutions that geared towards improving sustainability, increased effectiveness & efficiency in the operation of our hotels and through the deliver greater experiences for guests that create higher returns for IHG, our Owners & Investors. You will be expected to support the above through

  • Pre-signing stage, you will be required to produce a Brand Suitability Reports (BSR’s) or Property Investment Plan’s (PIP’s) that will set out the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) & Brand Safety Systems (BSS) requirements, or local codes where these are deemed to be more stringent that IHG standards, for all growth project assigned to you. These reports will be produced entirely from your thorough understanding of the Brand Standards and property data that will be made available to you.
  • Post signing stage, you will be called on to carry out stage review and assessment of consultant design at concept, preliminary and full design stages, and to deliver detailed report on the compliance / none compliance in reflection of the BSR/PIP, the applicable Brand Standards and the solutions set out within The Technical Handbook (THB).
  • Tender stage – you will be asked to review, assessment and reporting of the post tender documents / reports from the project consultant team and review of any post tender submittals provided by the supplier / contract teams approached.
  • Implementation stage - and renovations across EMEAA Hotel Life Cycle & Growth (HLG). Will be part of the team that reviews and comments on consultants’ designs in terms of economics, appropriateness in design, budget and operational issues. Through this stage our field engineers will make site visits and provide you with reports, you will be expected to review these and comment on areas of risk or none compliance.
  • Opening & Post Opening Review On opening you will be provided with the commissioning, test & inspection certification, as built / as installed and operations instructions. You will be asked to review these and establish compliance to the documentation delivered through the build journey and package this together for delivery to our NHOP team member who will formally open the property. You may be called upon to also provide information from the data base for a post opening review.

Critical Expertise, Experience and Educational Attainment Required:

Educational Attainment:

  • Master/bachelor’s degree in engineering (or international equivalent) with emphasis on Built Environment, Building Services, Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Certified in Fire Safety Engineering or Risk Management Assessor is an added advantage.
  • Project Management Certification is an added advantage
  • Professional Engineer (PE) qualifications in design and commissioning are preferred.

Critical Expertise & Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years related experience to include at least 5 years in a related building services role for hotels or high-end commercial complexes.
  • Well versed in Fire life safety equipment and Key Engineering Equipment (Electrical Switchboard distribution, elevators, plumbing and sanitary, ventilation, heating, air-conditioning, etc) testing and commissioning procedures, preferably with hands-on understanding.
  • Hotel operations/working experience and experience in a multi-national corporate environment is considered an added advantage.
