United Wire & Cable (UWC), a GCG company, is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Engineering team in Richmond Hill, Ontario. In this role, you will oversee a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators responsible for delivering engineering solutions that support customer projects, product development initiatives, and business growth across our electrical wire and cable portfolio.

As a member of the United Wire & Cable Business Leadership Team, you will play an important role in shaping engineering priorities, developing team capabilities, improving engineering processes, and ensuring resources are aligned to the highest-value opportunities. This position combines people leadership, operational oversight, and technical guidance to help drive quality, consistency, and execution across the organization.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based out of our Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada location

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee engineering workload planning and resource allocation to ensure projects are prioritized and executed effectively
  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to align engineering efforts with strategic objectives and customer needs
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, templates, and best practices that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency
  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce cycle times and enhance project execution
  • Monitor project progress, remove obstacles, and help teams resolve technical and operational challenges
  • Drive product development initiatives, including new product introduction, product enhancements, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Coordinate certification testing and support compliance with applicable industry standards and requirements
  • Serve as a technical resource and engineering liaison for cross-functional teams throughout the organization
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and talent development efforts to strengthen the engineering organization
  • Participate as a member of the Business Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning and business growth initiatives

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of CAD engineering experience within a technical, manufacturing, or industrial environment
  • Prior experience leading and developing engineering or technical teams
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools and engineering documentation practices
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage competing business demands
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within power distribution, electrical products, wire and cable, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments
  • Experience developing engineering standards, workflows, and training programs
  • Familiarity with product certification testing and regulatory requirements
  • Continuous improvement or process optimization experience
