The Director, Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering function in support of manufacturing and supply chain strategy. This role provides direction and execution leadership across engineering work processes, organizational capability, and technical initiatives that improve operational performance, asset reliability, and business growth.
This role establishes engineering standards, operating processes, and execution discipline to ensure engineering efforts deliver measurable, reliable, and scalable results. The Director partners closely with Reliability & Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, and cross-functional teams to align engineering capability with business needs and operational priorities.
What will your day look like?
Engineering Strategy & Work Process Leadership
- Develop and lead engineering strategy aligned with company priorities and manufacturing competitiveness
- Establish and standardize engineering work processes, governance, and technical standards
- Translate business strategy into actionable engineering plans with clear priorities and accountability
- Build operating rhythms and performance management routines that improve engineering effectiveness
Capital Project Partnership & Execution Discipline
- Partner with Facilities & Capital Projects to support capital execution from concept through startup
- Ensure engineering rigor through design reviews, commissioning standards, and risk mitigation practices
- Support startup readiness, capability transfer, and project handoff for sustained performance
- Provide input into capital prioritization, investment decisions, and resource alignment with business goals
Engineering Execution & Technical Leadership
- Ensure disciplined execution of engineering initiatives through structured problem solving and technical standards
- Lead cross-functional engineering efforts involving production, logistics, quality, and supply chain
- Apply data and engineering analysis to improve throughput, cost effectiveness, and system performance
- Ensure alignment across engineering activities to drive consistent, high-quality outcomes
Manufacturing & Reliability Integration
- Strengthen manufacturing capability through improvements in process robustness, equipment performance, and execution consistency
- Partner with Reliability & Maintenance to remove barriers impacting uptime and performance
- Integrate engineering solutions with asset care, maintenance practices, and lifecycle strategies
- Support improvement of equipment reliability and reduction of chronic losses through engineering practices
Leadership & Organizational Capability
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering organization
- Identify capability gaps and implement development plans to strengthen technical depth and leadership capability
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the team
- Build organizational effectiveness through strong talent planning and succession development
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead collaboration across Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain
- Build strong partnerships to improve decision making, execution alignment, and technical outcomes
- Communicate engineering priorities, risks, and progress effectively to leadership
- Serve as a key advisor on engineering capability, investment priorities, and operational improvement opportunities
- Other responsibilities as assigned by management

QualificationsWhat will you bring to the table?
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field)
- 10–15+ years of progressive experience in process engineering, controls engineering, and/or manufacturing engineering
- Demonstrated experience leading capital projects, commercialization, and production startup
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and developing talent
- Deep expertise in process design, scale-up, and manufacturing systems
Preferred
- Experience in consumer products or regulated manufacturing environments
- Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt)
- Experience implementing automation, controls systems, or digital manufacturing technologies
- Experience scaling engineering teams or supporting multi-site operations
