Our Collections Manager will be responsible for accurately billing, communicating and managing customer accounts. In this position, the individual will manage customer account information, process customer orders to billing, reconcile discrepancies, work to ensure timely payments from customers.

DataBank is seeking an experienced energy expert to lead the company's power procurement strategy across established and expansion sites. DataBank currently operates with a grid first strategy across its existing portfolio and current development sites. The Director will focus primarily on grid power across multiple utilities and transmission service providers while also evaluating alternative power solutions in response to regulatory changes affecting grid stability and the country's increasing electrification, which is absorbing available grid capacity.

The Director owns energy strategy from early market screening through project approval and energization. This includes securing early insight regarding power availability at prospective development sites, evaluating utility generation, transmission and distribution capacity and timelines, forecasting security deposits and CIAC payments to support budgeting and underwriting accuracy, exploring on-site and behind the meter generation solutions, structuring relationships with utilities, independent power producers, and generation providers, and negotiating the commercial agreements that support them. The role partners closely with Construction and Engineering, Legal, and Finance to ensure that power feasibility, cost, and risk are embedded in investment and site selection decisions, and that every project has a credible and defensible path to power. Director of Energy Strategy and Power Procurement oversees the full arc cycle from project inception through energization.

This is a highly cross functional role, accountable for monitoring regulatory and legislative developments through participation in weekly Data Center Coalition meetings, ad hoc regulatory and utility commission proceedings, and using this insight to flag risk and inform the development of power certain projects. The Director will focus primarily on new power requirements for development sites while concurrently ensuring that existing in-flight energization processes meet their deadlines. The role reports to the EVP of Corporate Development and is expected to operate with a high degree of independent judgment while keeping internal stakeholders aligned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead power procurement strategy across established and future expansion sites, with a primary focus on grid power.
  • Build strong relationships across serving utilities and transmission service providers; enhance day-to-day interactions and increase depth and quality of relationships to optimize utility responsiveness.
  • Own energy strategy end-to-end, from early market screening through project approval and energization, including how utility capacity and delivery timelines impact Corporate Development underwriting models and DataBank’s long term forecast.
  • Forecast accurate financial impacts related to security deposits, letters of credit and CIAC payments to support timely ordering of long lead time equipment and ensure accurate budgeting and underwriting; ensure that minimum billing commitments and ramp penalties are tracked early and woven into underwriting.
  • Structure contractual relationships and negotiate commercial agreements with utilities, independent power producers, and generation providers including FEAs, ESAs, easements, and other relevant filings required in the procurement process.
  • Track regulatory and legislative developments through participation in energy-centric Data Center Coalition weekly meetings, monitoring public utility commission proceedings, and using these signals to flag risk to project teams and key DataBank SMEs. Mitigate development project risk resulting from regulation through consistent monitoring of the landscape.
  • Define power solution options including behind-the-meter (SMR for future applications) when grid resources are not available or delayed, create data-driven decision frameworks for such alternatives, including power delivery timeline forecasts, long lead-time equipment strategies, and alternative fuel sources.
  • Balance new power requirements for development sites with the deadlines of existing, in flight energization projects.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Construction and Colocation Engineering: align on technical development requirements, early PUE / design considerations, substation and switching station layout, on-campus power routing, etc. to confirm site level power feasibility.
  • Finance: provide Corporate Development team key data to embed power feasibility, cost, and risk into investment and site selection decisions, ensuring every project has a defensible path to power.
  • Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability: coordinate on power delivery technology and power purchase agreement obligations, including ramps, power costs, and minimum billing, and align local commitments with broader environmental and community priorities.
  • Community Relations and, in the future, Government Relations and Regulatory leadership: coordinate on legislative and regulatory matters affecting power delivery.
  • Corporate Development: align on project milestones and the site level power impacts of target, newly acquired, and existing sites.
  • Legal: collaborate on negotiating key power agreements.

Communications and Reporting

  • Report to the EVP of Corporate Development, operating with a high degree of independent judgment while keeping internal stakeholders aligned.
  • Represent DataBank in Data Center Coalition and in regulatory and utility commission sessions, tracking developments as risk signal flags; notify internal and 3rd party SMEs who need to know.
  • Provide power delivery timeline forecasts, ramp commitments, and project status updates to leadership to inform investment and prioritization decisions.
  • Communicate power feasibility, cost, and risk assessments clearly to cross-functional stakeholders during early-stage project development.
  • Oversee structured handoffs of generation strategy, assumptions, equipment commitments, and risk assessments as projects transition into downstream execution teams; typically to Construction, Colocation Engineering and Sustainability.
  • Prepare clear, executive-level materials summarizing generation feasibility, cost, risks, tradeoffs, and strategic recommendations.
  • Serve as a key interface with executive leadership, presenting and defending recommendations that inform capital allocation, investment, and market prioritization decisions.
  • Provide subject matter leadership, guidance, and mentorship across the broader organization.
  • Identify emerging risks, technology trends, and strategic opportunities impacting long-term power availability, cost, and competitiveness.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.

Budget and Vendor Management

  • Forecast security deposits and CIAC payments to support budgeting and underwriting accuracy.
  • Structure and negotiate commercial agreements with utilities, independent power producers, and generation providers.
  • Manage third party due diligence vendors necessary to complete analysis of power delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience in energy strategy, power procurement, or utility relations, preferably within data center, industrial, or other large load energy environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of grid power delivery, utility tariffs, interconnection processes, and CIAC and security deposit structures.
  • Commercial acumen with experience evaluating and structuring utility, on-site and behind the meter generation solutions, including power purchase agreements with independent power producers and generation providers.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and legislative processes that affect power delivery and grid stability, including engagement with utility commissions or industry coalitions.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements with utilities and energy providers.
  • Proven success operating cross-functionally with Construction, Engineering, Legal, Finance, Sustainability, and Corporate Development teams.
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to align diverse internal stakeholders around a shared strategy.
  • Ability to operate effectively in early-stage, ambiguous environments with incomplete or evolving information.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical inputs into business-relevant insights.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive decisions in complex, cross-functional environments, including the ability to deliver outcomes without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive-ready materials
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, business, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
