Director of Education

Position Summary

The Director of Education is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs that support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and professional development throughout the organization. This position serves as a clinical resource and liaison between leadership and agency staff, ensuring standardized practices, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing staff competency development. The Director of Education collaborates with operational and clinical leadership to promote compliance with state and federal regulations and enhance patient care outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Staff Development

  • Develop, implement, and maintain structured orientation programs for all new employees.
  • Design and coordinate ongoing educational programs, including annual mandatory in-service training.
  • Provide CPR training, certification, and annual nursing skills validation.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education, seminars, and training opportunities.
  • Research, develop, and implement new clinical education initiatives and best practices.

Clinical Oversight and Quality Improvement

  • Monitor the delivery of nursing care and support services to ensure staff possess the skills and competencies necessary to meet patient needs.
  • Conduct audits of medical records, personnel files, committee reports, and training documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Assess clinical programs and provide recommendations for improvement and standardization.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives and implementation of company-wide clinical programs.
  • Monitor infection control and OSHA compliance practices and provide recommendations as needed.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting home health services.
  • Assist with regulatory surveys, mock surveys, and compliance reviews.
  • Support appeals management activities as assigned.
  • Assist in the development, interpretation, and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Promote compliance with patient rights requirements and company ethical standards.
  • Educate staff regarding fraud, waste, and abuse prevention policies.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serve as a clinical resource and advisor to agency leadership.
  • Report directly to and assist the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and/or Regional Administrator on clinical matters and special projects.
  • Provide interim management support when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, leadership, patients, families, and community partners.
  • Foster positive relationships with healthcare providers, regulatory agencies, patients, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state(s) of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of home health care experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in education, training, leadership, or supervision preferred.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and payer sources preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of home health clinical regulations and standards of practice.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and develop clinical staff.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and engage in physical activity for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting, bending, reaching, and standing on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

  • Primarily works indoors in an office and healthcare setting.
  • Travel is required, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Exposure to a low-risk work environment.

Reporting Relationship

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO) and/or Regional Administrator

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation with automobile insurance meeting organizational and state requirements.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Commitment to supporting and promoting the organization's mission, values, compliance standards, and quality care objectives.
