The Director of Education and Outreach (DEO) will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the planning, development, staffing, execution, and continuous improvement of educational and outreach programs aligned with the mission of NSF-CMCC. Outreach programs and educational initiatives may include lectures, workshops, public engagement events, the CMCC REU Program, Youth Adventure Program, and Green Chemistry Commitment activities. The selected candidate will ensure that all programming activities are effectively managed to achieve impactful outcomes and meet institutional and grant-related objectives.

Opportunities to Contribute

• Develops and implements strategic plans, goals, and policies for education and outreach programs.
• Leads and supervises outreach staff and coordinates education and outreach efforts across CMCC partner institutions, university departments, and external organizations.
• Serves as the primary liaison for external partners while fostering collaborative relationships and partnerships.
• Ensures effective communication and dissemination of outreach materials.
• Develops and manages program budgets, identifies funding opportunities, and supports responsible use of resources in alignment with grant requirements.
• Leads assessment and evaluation efforts, including surveys and focus groups, and collaborates with advisory boards and NSF to implement program improvements.
• Prepares reports and grant materials for internal stakeholders and funding agencies.
• Participates in planning meetings with CMCC leadership and contributes to long-term strategic initiatives.
• Represents CMCC at conferences, recruitment events, and external meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten years of related experience.

A well-qualified candidate may also possess:

• PhD in Chemistry or related field.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong public speaking, organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills.
• Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.

Salary: Commensurate

Schedule Note: Occasional travel required. Occasional work required after hours or during weekends.

Hybrid/Remote Work Option: Due to the nature of this position, a hybrid or remote work arrangement may be available for workplace flexibility.

Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
