Job Description

The Director of Development plans, directs, and coordinates fundraising activities for Planned Giving prospects and donors in the Western Region of the United States, with a particular focus on the California market.

A member of a national Individual Giving team, the Director is part of a national Planned Giving strategy group and will report directly to the Executive Director, Planned Giving. Additionally, the Director and their supervisor will partner closely with the Associate Vice President who manages the East and West Coast teams.

The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for their portfolio of donors.

The Director is expected to maintain an active travel schedule of personal visits with donors and initiate one-on -one engagement and solicitation opportunities.

Raise Funds to Support CARE’s Mission

  • Manage an active and dynamic portfolio of approximately 100-150 donors and prospects.
  • Develop and implement strategic engagement and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects.
  • Solicit planned gifts of bequests, beneficiary designations, and other giving vehicles.
  • Working with Major Giving colleagues, support cross-team collaboration goals.
  • Creatively and thoughtfully build meaningful connections and relationships between donors and the organization, serving as a bridge, partner, and liaison between funders and CARE.
  • Responsibly and thoroughly keep donor records updated in CARE's CRM, Salesforce as a basic function of strong donor management.

Cross-team Collaboration

  • Support a community-building strategy that fosters meaningful relationships, learning, and peer-to-peer connections for Planned Givers in key markets.
  • Serve as the Planned Giving liason for the West Coast Major Gifts team to help secure blended gifts by providing training and guidance; and conducting joint visits.
