The Director of Content leads AMC's content vision and execution for AMC's marketing channels, publications, and staff departments, ensuring that storytelling, messaging, and creative assets advance organizational growth goals while reinforcing a consistent and compelling brand experience. This role owns the full content lifecycle from strategy and editorial planning through execution, governance, and performance optimization and serves as a senior partner across Growth, Development, Conservation, and regional chapter teams.
What You'll be Doing at AMC
Content Strategy and Leadership
- Set and own the content strategy for key audiences, aligning editorial priorities, campaign concepts, and messaging frameworks with AMC's growth and engagement goals.
- Lead end to end content planning and delivery, from ideation through execution, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Creative Direction and Brand Stewardship
- Translate complex ideas, initiatives, and value propositions into clear, audience centered written and visual storytelling across print, digital, web, video, and emerging formats.
- Establish, maintain, and evolve content standards and guidelines to ensure quality, consistency, and brand integrity across all touchpoints, proactively anticipating and documenting format and technical requirements for intended output.
- Guide creative development through concepting, review, and refinement, setting a high bar for clarity, impact, and relevance.
Cross Functional Partnership
- Collaborate closely with growth marketing, development, conservation, lodging operations, membership, and chapter communications leaders to deliver integrated campaigns, collateral, and communications.
- Act as a senior content partner, shaping narratives that support fundraising, membership growth, customer engagement, and internal alignment.
Insights, Performance and Optimization
- Monitor competitive activity, industry trends, and audience behavior to inform positioning and content strategy.
- Analyze content performance and qualitative feedback, translating insights into actionable recommendations that improve effectiveness and scale best practices.
People and Partner Management
- Lead, coach, and develop content team members, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and growth oriented culture. Team members include:
- - Design: Creative Manager and Designer
- - Copy: Content Developer and Conservation Advocacy Communicator
- - Archives: Archivist
- - Print: Contract Editor, Appalachia
- Manage agency and vendor relationships, providing clear direction, compliant contracts, anticipating risks, and ensuring timely, high quality delivery.
QualificationsWhat AMC is Looking For
- 7 or more years of experience in integrated content strategy, storytelling, and campaign development, with demonstrated progression into senior leadership roles.
- Proven success leading content and creative initiatives across print and digital advertising, social, email, video, web, and internal communications.
- Experience setting strategy and influencing outcomes in cross functional, matrixed organizations.
- Demonstrated people management experience, with a coaching oriented leadership style and a record of team development.
- Strong strategic judgment paired with attention to execution quality and detail.
- Experience leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to improve creative workflows and impact.
- Highly organized, deadline driven, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast moving environment.
- Strong partner management skills, including guiding agencies and external collaborators through creative and production processes.

Salary range: $85,170 to $114,954

The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
