Job Description

The Director of Construction is responsible for developing and leading a team focused on construction and equipment installation within the wireless telecommunications industry and assures work performance is in adherence to company and industry standards. This position is responsible for managing the daily operations and client satisfaction through improving performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability through the development and implementation of effective methods and strategies. This includes managing, planning, directing, and coordinating all construction and installation project needs.

Acts as a technical resource to management across the department and lateral departments. Contributes to the development of the organization's business strategy, by developing organizational objectives to align with the strategy. This position also assists in creating annual and quarterly budgets for the construction department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee all daily operations ensuring that all employee requirements, equipment, material, and vendor resources are maintained to support the business.

• Supervise a team of direct reporting managers who oversee field and technical personnel as well as third-party contractors.

• Delegate responsibilities and oversee operations to ensure strategies and objectives are being met in an organized and timely fashion.

• Communicate effectively with management, direct reports and employees as needed to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the business.

• Monitor overall work processes and standard procedures to ensure performance is to company and industry standards.

• Assist in creating quarterly and annual budgets and monitor and approve all expenditures and capital projects associated with the Construction department.

• Seek out and develop growth opportunities through interaction with clients, Sales staff and other third parties.

• Act as lead on RFP responses.

• Recruit, select, coach, and motivate new employees as required to support the business.

• Ensure all field personnel are working safely and following all OSHA industry standards.

• Stay knowledgeable of competition and important emerging technologies and standards.

• Establish and develop staff through ongoing training programs, operational procedures, communication skills, policies, technical skills etc.

• Contribute towards the achievement of the company's strategic, financial, and operational objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Required

• Significant experience performing and/or overseeing construction projects in the telecom space.

• Experience in OSP construction, including fiber splicing, FTTx installations, aerial, buried, and underground placement, and duct mapping/verification services.

• Experience in wireless construction, including small cell, DAS, microwave, and wireless local loop installations.

• Significant experience sourcing and managing third-party contractors.

• Significant experience leading and motivating staff members.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and relationships with clients, staff, and external resources.

• Ability to organize and communicate ideas and data.

• Creative and innovative thinking.

• Be able to demonstrate record of conflict resolution, and effective negotiation and coaching skills.

• Ability to influence others and guide the team in a shared strategy.

• Responsible for building and maintaining employee morale, helping employees reach their full potential and inspiring employee loyalty.

• Ability to travel as required.

• Valid, unexpired driver's license is required.

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements

• Expert level experience using Microsoft office suite & Outlook; Excel.

• Experience using Adobe Acrobat (pdf files) & digital photographs (jpeg files).

• Experience with SiteTracker.

• Experience with DelTek a plus.

Education and Experience Required

• BS/BA degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or civil engineering preferred; relevant work experience will be considered.

• PMP Certification a plus.

• 10+ yrs. experience in wireless telecommunications.

• 5+ yrs. leadership experience.

• Prior experience in direct customer contact/communication.

Salary Description
$130k-140k based on experience
