Job Description

The Director of Community Development & Financial Wellness is responsible for leading the credit union’s community development, sponsorship, outreach, financial wellness, youth banking, school partnership, and community impact strategy. This position serves as the strategic leader for building meaningful community relationships that increase the credit union’s visibility, strengthen trust, expand financial education, support youth and family engagement, and create long-term membership and relationship growth opportunities.

This role reports to the Vice President of Marketing and works closely with Marketing, Retail, Business Banking, Lending, Branch Leadership, Member Experience, and community partners to ensure outreach efforts support the credit union’s mission, strategic goals, and field of membership.

Duties & Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute community engagement, financial wellness, sponsorship, and outreach strategies.
  • Establish goals, priorities, budgets, and performance metrics for department initiatives.
  • Supervise and coach the Community Engagement & Financial Wellness Officer.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and progress updates to leadership.

Community Development & Strategic Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, community organizations, municipalities, and local leaders.
  • Represent the credit union at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities.
  • Identify partnerships that support financial wellness, membership growth, and community impact.
  • Serve as a community ambassador for the credit union.

Sponsorship & Outreach Leadership

  • Develop and oversee the credit union’s sponsorship and outreach strategy.
  • Evaluate opportunities based on strategic value, community impact, and brand visibility.
  • Oversee volunteer initiatives, charitable giving efforts, and community engagement activities.
  • Track and report on the impact of sponsorships, outreach efforts, and community programs.

Financial Wellness Leadership

  • Lead the credit union's financial wellness strategy and education initiatives.
  • Oversee youth banking, school banking, and youth financial education programs.
  • Strengthen relationships with schools, educators, and youth-focused organizations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand financial education and youth engagement.

Youth Banking & School Partnership Strategy

  • Lead the credit union's financial wellness strategy and education initiatives.
  • Oversee youth banking, school banking, and youth financial education programs.

  • Identify opportunities to expand financial education and youth engagement.

Retail & Business Banking Collaboration

  • Partner with internal teams to support community-based growth opportunities.
  • Build relationships that create opportunities for membership growth and business development.
  • Coordinate employer partnerships, financial wellness programs, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Track and measure partnership and referral outcomes.

Community Impact & Volunteer Engagement

  • Lead the credit union's community impact and volunteer engagement efforts.
  • Oversee charitable giving, volunteer programs, sponsorships, and community initiatives.
  • Measure and communicate the impact of outreach, financial wellness, and community engagement activities.
  • Partner with Marketing to share community impact stories and strengthen brand visibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business, community development, education, or related field preferred - equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Five or more years of experience in community relations, financial services, marketing, business development, sponsorships, outreach, or related work preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Credit union or financial institution experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong strategic planning, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in community development, sponsorships, outreach, marketing, financial education, business development, or related work.
  • Strong understanding of credit union philosophy, member service, and community impact.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Marketing, Retail, Business Banking, Branches, Lending, and Member Experience.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, project management, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sponsorships, events, budgets, reporting, and multiple initiatives.
  • Reliable vehicle and ability to travel within the credit union’s field of membership.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to attend off-site community events, school programs, sponsorship events, business meetings, and partner activities.
  • Ability to assist with event setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Ability to lift and transport event materials, displays, supplies, and promotional items.

Monday - Friday 8:15am - 5:00pm
