Job Description

Microsoft is seeking a Director of Communications, Digital Strategy & Operations. In this role, you will lead a team of resources in visual storytelling, amplification, event communications, breaking news and newsroom operations. We are looking for someone who is both a thinker and a doer. You should be comfortable thinking at a high level about the team’s overall content strategy, and you should also be able to jump in with help with editing a photo or video, developing a social media plan and editing a piece of written content on deadline when needed. You should be deeply curious about modern ways of telling stories and reaching audiences directly, have an appetite for experimentation and also have the ability to create predictable editorial processes that allow teams to communicate news quickly and efficiently.

The primary location for this position is Redmond, WA. Additionally, there are three other locations where this role may be based. Candidates who do not reside in one of these four areas will be relocated to Redmond.



Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that of high performing editorial and visual storytelling resources, providing both strategic guidance and day to day mentorship and support.
  • Provide editorial leadership for major flagship events and the company’s breaking news blog.
  • Oversee visual and amplification content creation and execution across the entire Microsoft Stories team, including hands on support when needed.
  • Provide strategic leadership for newsroom operations for Microsoft Stories.
  • Embody our Culture and Values



Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years experience in journalism, corporate storytelling, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) people management experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years experience in journalism, corporate storytelling, or related experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years experience in journalism, corporate storytelling, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience.
  • Experience with the latest trends in technology, including AI and cloud computing.
  • Experience telling stories about technical topics in a way that is understandable and relatable to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience creating or overseeing creation of, assets including written feature stories and blog posts, still photography, videos and other visual media, such as graphics and GIFs, and amplification plans.
  • Experience working successfully cross functionally and with external partners.

Communications M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
