The Director of Cloud and DevOps will lead and manage our cloud platform, infrastructure automation, and DevOps organizations. This leadership role will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency of our cloud environments while enabling modern software delivery practices through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and automation. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in cloud architecture, DevOps, site reliability engineering, and platform operations, with a proven track record of leading transformation in complex environments. The ability to build high-performing teams, set strategic direction, improve developer experience, and deliver measurable business value through resilient and efficient cloud operations is critical.

What You’ll Be Doing:

1. Strategic Leadership

a. Develop and implement cloud and DevOps strategies aligned with organizational goals, architectural standards, security requirements, and business growth objectives.

b. Provide strategic direction and oversight for cloud platform engineering, infrastructure automation, DevOps tooling, and operational excellence practices.

c. Develop and oversee disaster recovery, resilience, and business continuity strategies for cloud-based services, ensuring critical systems can be recovered and restored with minimal disruption.

d. Establish cloud governance, vendor management, and platform standards to optimize spend, maximize value, and reduce operational risk.

e. Provide audit, compliance, and risk management support by ensuring operational controls, security guardrails, and policy-driven automation are in place across cloud platforms.

2. Cloud Platform and DevOps Management

a. Oversee the daily operations of cloud platforms and DevOps teams, ensuring high availability, scalability, reliability, and supportability of services for internal and customer-facing applications.

b. Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure, container platforms, networking, identity, and supporting services while partnering closely with application development teams.

c. Own and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and developer enablement tooling with measurable service levels, quality gates, and governance.

d. Implement key performance metrics for cloud and DevOps effectiveness, including availability, deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, recovery time, and platform adoption.

e. Oversee incident response, problem management, and reliability practices, including post-incident reviews, root cause analysis, and resilience improvements.

f. Develop and implement cloud, DevOps, and platform engineering policies, standards, and best practices.

g. Lead operational security practices in partnership with security leadership, embedding DevSecOps controls and secure-by-default patterns across the delivery lifecycle.

h. Ensure access controls, patching, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening processes are defined, automated where practical, and managed effectively.

i. Drive continuous improvement in cloud operations through infrastructure as code, automation, self-service capabilities, and reduction of manual operational toil.

3. Cloud Architecture, Reliability, and Enablement

a. Oversee the design and evolution of cloud landing zones, shared services, deployment patterns, and reliability frameworks that support secure and scalable growth.

b. Partner with engineering, architecture, security, and data teams to improve platform reliability, developer experience, and operational consistency across environments.

c. Define cloud architecture standards, governance models, and engineering guardrails, including infrastructure as code, configuration management, observability, and environment consistency.

d. Champion continuous improvement of platform services through automation, reusable patterns, service-level objectives, and data-driven operational reviews.

4. Team Leadership and Development

a. Track and manage multiple priorities and backlogs across cloud platform, automation, reliability, and DevOps initiatives.

b. Manage and mentor cloud, platform, DevOps, and site reliability engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, automation, collaboration, and professional development.

c. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align cloud strategy, release practices, reliability goals, and platform roadmaps with business and engineering priorities.

d. Develop strong partnerships with business and technology leaders to continuously improve delivery capabilities, operational resilience, and service outcomes.

e. Oversee managed service providers and engineering partners, balancing internal capability development with targeted external expertise.

5. Budget and Vendor Management

a. Develop and manage the cloud platform and DevOps budget, ensuring cost-effective investments in infrastructure, tooling, automation, and engineering enablement.

b. Negotiate and manage contracts with cloud providers, platform vendors, and strategic service partners.

c. Drive regular business reviews with key vendors, monitor cloud consumption, and establish FinOps practices to improve cost transparency and value realization.

6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement

a. Measure what you manage by establishing clear operational, engineering, and financial metrics for cloud and DevOps performance.

b. Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in cloud, platform engineering, DevOps, observability, and automation.

c. Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives that modernize cloud operations, accelerate software delivery, and improve reliability and security outcomes.

d. Continuously evaluate and implement appropriate automation, orchestration, and self-service technologies to improve scale, speed, and consistency.

7. All other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring to the Table

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience:

1. Minimum of 10 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

2. Minimum of 7 years of experience with AWS specifically

3. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure is preferred

4. Proven experience managing cloud environments, automation programs, and modern software delivery platforms.

Skills and Competencies:

1. Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and security services.

2. Strong knowledge of DevOps and platform engineering practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, containerization, and automation.

3. Strong understanding of balancing engineering priorities, delivering cost-effective solutions, and improving business outcomes through scalable cloud platforms.

4. In-depth understanding of reliability engineering, observability, incident management, governance, and security best practices in cloud environments.

5. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

6. Experience selecting and managing cloud providers, platform vendors, and strategic consulting partners.

7. Ability to manage multiple rapidly changing priorities while maintaining detail-oriented and effective verbal and written communication skills.

8. Ability to think strategically and execute effectively in a fast-paced, transformation-oriented environment.

9. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a focus on automation, resilience, and continuous improvement.

10. Proven track record of successfully attracting, developing, and leading high-performing cloud and DevOps teams.
