Job Description

In relation to contributing to SJVC’s mission and goals, under direct supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Director of Career Services works with autonomy, responsibility, and authority to provide leadership to the Career Services team(s) and assures they complete the three major functions of their position including Placement, Externship and Career Services Seminar to achieve placement goals of the campus. This requires knowledge and understanding of the career services process, the ability to proactively identify problems and seek solutions, highly refined critical thinking skills and the ability to distinguish between facts and inferences. The Director of Career Services directs the Career Services team(s) by obtaining, analyzing and applying data utilizing various resources including our activity based management system. The Director of Career Services communicates on an on-going basis with the Campus President(s) and Campus Management Teams. The work location for this position is remote.

Compensation: The starting pay range for this position is $70,304 - $80,000 annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Placement

  • Establishes daily/weekly/modular placement goal, monitors achievement and provides coaching to remedy deficiency.
  • Ensures Career Services team(s) meets and exceeds daily, weekly, and modular activity goals to achieve placement goal.
  • Schedules employer development for Career Services team(s) and sets targets for job orders and interviews.
  • Audits job orders and activities through Job Order Dashboard to ensure urgency and quality.
  • Reviews available graduates with Career Services team(s) and provides follow up plan and support for each graduate.
  • Conducts audits of all placements and exclusions to confirm compliance.
  • Attend business functions, trade shows and professional organizations’ meetings for the purposes of networking and employer development.
  • Meets with instructors to discuss employer needs and available openings.
  • Hosts Advisory Board meetings to represent Career Services.

Externship

  • Utilizes reports to ensure all students have externship sites on scheduled start date.
  • Confirms and tracks midterm review to increase extern to hire conversions.
  • Ensures Career Services team completes required documentation for tracking externship hours, extension, completion and student performance.
  • Verifies all medical screening requirements for externship site clearance are complete.
  • Assesses and analyzes student mastery of course and program learning outcomes.

Career Academy

  • Ensures Career Services team(s) completes Orientation and provides support as needed.
  • Confirms consistent communication takes place by Career Services team(s) by performing documentation audits in internal documentation system. Provide support as needed.

Managerial Operations

  • Administers New Career Services Advisor Training to assigned campus(s) or employees.
  • Chairs daily individual morning and evening meetings with Career Services team(s) to assist in closing out job orders, interviews, mock interviews and placement.
  • Chairs weekly department meetings and provides on going training to develop a consultative, persuasive and sales driven Career Services team(s).
  • Attends CSD weekly conference call.
  • Represents Career Services department on campus management team.
  • Conducts Performance Evaluations, performs side by side coaching and office visit coaching with Career Services team and documents in Performance Evaluation system.
  • Maintains timely and accurate computer and manual records to ensure compliance. Communicates with CAO staff changes in Graduate Placement Status.
  • Verifies all orientations for Externship and the Career Academy are complete by Career Services team in a timely manner.
  • Verifies that Career Services team conducts appropriate licensure audits and data entry.
  • Completes advisor assignments and assures equity in student distribution.
  • Assumes caseload for all students in Career Academy, Externship and placement for the team as needed.
  • Ensures timely response to management requests and directives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages the career services team(s). Is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems with discretion and independent judgment.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A..) preferred, from an accredited college is required. Required degree(s) must be from institutions accredited by recognized U.S. accrediting agencies. Degrees from non-U.S. institutions are recognized only if equivalence has been established and provided. Five to seven years of related experience (experience in a private-postsecondary institution preferred).

Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze and interpret analytical reports on inquiries, enrollments and drops; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees and students; ability to effectively present information to students and admissions team.

Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ration and percent.

Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook; and master proprietary software used to maintain student records.
