Job Description Summary:

Supervise, coordinates, plans and evaluate systems and personnel in the Maternity Care (NICU, LDRP, lactation education, antepartum testing, OB triage/ED and OB OR/PACU). Oversees the regulatory/credentialing, safety, quality, fiscal and technical activities of these departments to ensure efficient operation and required outcomes. Confer with appropriate departments and nursing/medical directors on issues of compliance being imposed by various regulatory agencies, ensuring that those changes found to be necessary are instituted and sustained. Keep nursing leadership and medical directors aware of needs, activities and administrative problems of the departments, activities related to clinical operations, quality improvement, regulatory compliance and risk management activities of the unit. Work cooperatively with other directors to ensure seamless operation of the hospital. Responsible for patient experience and necessarily follow up. Implements changes in policy, programs, and physical resources required to achieve hospital objectives. Ensures that professional staff is able to provide direct and indirect patient care and clinical services to the patient population of said services and that the number of staff is sufficient to accomplish these goals.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

EDUCATION

• BA or BS degree in nursing or health-related field required.
• Master’s degree in nursing or administration strongly preferred.
• Additional certificates/courses in clinical area and leadership preferred

EXPERIENCE

• Management experience in nursing area with programs for accreditation and licensure, evaluation of personnel and standards of performance, budget/salary preparation and negotiation, purchase of equipment and accompanying necessary comparative evaluations, renovation and expansion of both section and departmental facilities and managing of complaints by patients, visitors, clinicians and staff in a constructive manner.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

• California RN license (RN) required at hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) required at hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at hire.
• Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

All those achieved through education and experience that fulfill the purpose of this job description. In addition, capable of preparing reports, records and statistical data. Able to communicate new departmental functions to hospital staff. Able to establish control measures in utilization of supplies. Effectively encourage staff participation, soliciting staff suggestions and discussion. Objectively review and analyze facts for development of a plan of action or corrective action. Effectively interact with other departments.

• Ensure that current job descriptions for all positions are available and are updated as needed, or at least annually
• Ensure appropriate certification for staff members as appropriate
