The Yale Cancer Center at Yale University is seeking applicants for an open-rank position (Associate Professor or Professor) to be the lead Director of Cancer Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center (YCC)—a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center for over 50 years. The position is a ladder-track faculty appointment well-suited for an individual with experience and ability to collaborate with investigators who conduct basic, translational, clinical and population studies at the YCC. As a member of the YCC and Division of Medical Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine, the faculty member will also have access to the extensive resources available at YCC, Yale School of Medicine (YSM), and be eligible for a secondary appointment in the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), including affiliation with the Yale Center for Analytical Sciences (YCAS - https://ysph.yale.edu/ycas/)—a center for collaborative science at YSPH.

The available position requires strong quantitative and communications skills and with experience in the design and analysis of cancer clinical trials, especially early-phase trials. Responsibilities include (1) collaborating with investigators on clinical, translational, and basic science projects at the YCC by providing expert biostatistical consultation on study design, implementation, conduct, and analysis; (2) aiding in the preparation of protocols, grants, and manuscripts for multiple projects; (3) planning and overseeing the comprehensive analysis for many types of data and study designs including clinical trials, prospective cohort analyses, machine learning and bioinformatics; (4) providing mentorship to junior investigators and master’s level analytic staff; (5) conducting methodologic research to advance the field; and (6) interacting with YCC leadership to manage and promote access to biostatistics shared resources for YCC investigators.

The position involves consultation and collaboration with clinical researchers as well as recruitment and supervision of other biostatistics faculty and masters-degree analytic staff. The candidate will lead a team of biostatisticians with one group dedicated to solid tumors and the other group dedicated to heme malignancies. This individual will have considerable involvement in developing and writing statistical components of investigator-initiated grant applications and protocols. The ability to work independently on several different projects with a range of investigators is essential. The position will involve 75% effort for the Director position. The candidate will also have their own independent research program and will be provided with a minimum of 25% effort to launch their research. If the candidate is successful in securing independent funding, they will have additional protected time. The candidate will be expected to service as an educational resource for cancer center faculty and skills in pedagogy would be appreciated and could be a component of the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills along are a must.
