Job Description

The Director of Behavioral Health provides leadership, direction, and coordination for all of Good Samaritan’s behavioral health service lines and facilities. The Director of Behavioral health has overall responsibility for the direction and supervision of all behavioral health employees and services including, but not limited to, establishing and accomplishing goals, formulating policy, ensuring accurate service to consumers, ensuring the best caliber staff are employed to manage investments and programs, directing the preparation of the budget, ensuring the integrity of the policies and practices, and ensuring the accounting, financial and actuarial programs are sound.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Accept full responsibility for all behavioral health activities, programs, and services including directing the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; ensure that established goals and priorities are achieved.

  2. Administer the budget consistent with parameters defined by the Hospital Executive Team.

  3. Keeps the Executive Team advised of financial conditions, program progress, and present and future needs of the behavioral health programs.

  4. Provide leadership and direction in achieving short and long-range goals and objectives.

  5. Generates proposals for the establishment of new programs, discontinuance of existing programs, or major changes in programs or methods of service delivery.
  6. Ensures strategic goals are aligned with GS Strategic Plan.

  7. Ensures efficient, economic, and quality performance of all departments.

  8. Leads patient satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  9. Negotiates and oversees all behavioral health contracts.

  10. Monitors clinical quality of care and effectiveness of treatment, as well as compliance to internal/external standards of practice and fiscal, quality, and compliance.

  11. Coordinate with Quality Council on requisite data tracking requirements to assure that comprehensive patient safety and patient quality benchmarks are established and benchmarks achieved.

  12. Assure that contractual requirements with the Division of Mental Health and Addictions are clearly understood and requirements/expectations are consistently met.

    Secondary Job Duties:

  13. Perform other duties as directed by Chief Nursing Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education – MHA/MBA/MSW, other Master’s degree with behavioral health/hospital administration.

  • Experience – Minimum of five years’ leadership experience in behavioral health setting preferred.
